Progress is often considered a natural and inherent human inclination. Humans have a tendency to seek improvement, growth, and advancement in various aspects of their lives, including technology, knowledge, society, and personal well-being. All of life – fauna and flora are on a steady path of increase. Progress is inherent in all creation. The desire for progress is natural.
That desire you have to rise is not ungodly, it is embedded deep within the DNA of all God created. Every seed is yearning for harvest, every child is manifesting an adult. Progress is natural, retrogression is abnormal.
So, how can you ensure that you consistently rise right where you are?
There is a very interesting concept shared by Jesus that gives a clear path to rising with ease. Let’s examine the concept quickly.
“Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matt 5:15-16
On the surface, this looks like an instruction to be generous with our lives. This passage is often interpreted as a metaphor for sharing one’s virtues, talents, and the goodness they possesses with others rather than hiding them away. Just as one would place a lamp on a stand to illuminate a room, individuals are encouraged to showcase their positive qualities and actions to impact the world around them positively.
Underneath this view, however, is a very interesting and deep wisdom tucked in neatly in this conversation. Light does not struggle to lifted. Light is lifted. Those who make shinning their duty are automatically candidates for promotion.
So next time you think your promotion is taking too long, rediscover your light and shine it!
