How to Get Your Dream Job!

Flashback: 14yrs ago in 2001, I wrote my first book titled “How to Get your Dream Job”. I sold a few thousands, before I got really busy and decided to face other things. 9yrs ago in 2006, I started what became one of the most resourceful personal blogs with a category on job information. Many got their first jobs through that channel.

I take a long look at the state of the nation Nigeria today, and I realise the problem has not gone away, the monster of unemployment has been fed fat and now stands in charge of 64 million plus Nigerian youths! Just looking around, I realise that every home is bedevilled by this alarming statistic. Literally every one out of two young people is jobless!

I have attempted various solutions before, and believe it’s time to fix this monster called unemployment. I feel sufficient compassion for our youths and express utter angst at their future. I have killed the lion and the bear, and I believe that by God’s grace, I can take on this goliath!

A careful thought about the issues of joblessness or unemployment is either individual or systemic. It’s either we solve the individuals challenges or tackle the systemic issues. It’s always best to start from where there is influence, which in this case is the individuals.

Many Job seekers are not qualified for the Jobs they are looking for. Some are averse to starting small, when in fact they are small. Many have the wrong attitude, don’t have the requisite knowledge and don’t have the required skills. It is clear that there is a need for re-orientation, provision of internship or volunteer opportunities and repackaging.

Like Esther, I am learning that it’s not enough to lead people, you must actually be willing to represent them.
