People are too quick to measure others by their results. They believe if what you are doing is correct, it will show. It’s an unscriptural thought. True faith and love for God manifests in wanting nothing! Eternity is only accessible by those who do what God wants, and that’s to the exclusion of wanting anything!
Oh please don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t always like this. I wanted to be rich, I only wanted to do it legitimately. I wanted to be rich and I also wanted to be famous. I wanted to useful, wanted to be accomplished, wanted to be right, wanted to make progress, wanted to win! I didn’t want to do these things alone, I taught people financial intelligence, taught them self management and personal mastery. A few years ago, God started a journey with me, opening my eyes to how useless these pursuits are, and how wanting is the worlds “modus operandi”. Call it want, call it lust, call it desires – it’s the birth place of idolatry. All of these things I want no more!
Don’t love the world’s ways. Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity – 1 John 2:15-17
I must not want gold or silver. I must not want to be rich! I must not want to progress! I must not want to succeed in the world’s definition of success. I must not want the Church numerical strength to grow! I don’t even want to be known as being involved in a mighty revival. No, I must not even want to be important or spoken well of. I must do what God wants, no matter the cost! Everything you want, becomes a handle with which the enemy can access you. We are as cheap as our wants and as priceless as our lack of desires.
So in case you are wondering, what does this guy want? I want to come to the end of my life, that I may experience the beginning of His life. I want nothing except that Christ in me comes to full stature. That requires that I decrease and he increase. It means less of me, until none of me and all of Him. I want to die with Him and arise as Him.
Our wants quench our love for God! Wanting our own way, wanting everything for ourselves and wanting to be important all pitch us against God! Stop rating your life by the achievement of wants. What matters is what God wants! Are you doing it? Are you discipling nations? Is Jesus represented in your space or do you sit in silence as those for whom Jesus shed his blood are raped by the ideologies of men.
