How to take maximum advantage of a learning intervention

What we learn adds to us, and if we are not deliberately learning, we are unconsciously losing value. Every day, we have an opportunity to feed ourselves. We can feed our bodies, feed our minds, and we can also feed our spirit. What we feed grows, and what we refuse to feed first stagnates and ultimately dies.

This weekend was packed for me as we had session after session from 9 am to 6 pm from Thursday to Saturday, telling from the feedback, the learning experience was awesome. The participants got value, and even the facilitators got value as well.

Having been a mixture of a teacher and student for years, I have come to realize that the best value to take from training sessions is not new knowledge but new action. “What am I going to do differently based on what I have learned?”. You need to learn to ask yourself this question and to answer it.

Here are a few things that stood out for me at a just-concluded conference that I want to take action on.

1. The conferences can be planned to run around different cities in Nigeria. We actually have a product in conferences that we have not paid much service to. We can change this. We must change this. We will change this.

2. There is a gap in the Herbal Supplement, Alternative, or Traditional Medicine space for exhibitions. We can carve a niche for natural products, or made in Nigeria products, or a primary health care show. Will plan a brainstorming session for this.

3. The idea of RIDA as a Primary Health Care (PHC) product sounds really connected. I am going to explore this further and see what we can do to be more visible and vocal on PHC.

4. I need to start documenting more of the thoughts that I have for the business and keep a tab on the things we want to accomplish. Dreaming and planning don’t cost extra, but the returns on them are huge.

5. We are a community, and we have a community of practice. I need to investigate the best practices for our community and strengthen them. Dr. Funmi Aina and MI already gave insights into some, we can build this further, should.

6. With Social media and with all tools and skill areas, we need consistency. We need to build around content that is informative, inspiring, educative, and entertaining. Our goal is to build trust, and we won’t do it with what we want to sell but with what we offer before we try to sell. We need to show up daily.

7. Whatever you are doing, don’t neglect or relegate the God factor. The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to God.

Some of my program summaries may not make so much sense to you, as it’s completely customized for me and what I need to do. This is really what is needed from every learning intervention – Next Steps.

We will be organizing more and more conferences like this in the days and weeks to come. You can watch out for how you can be a part of them.

If you are in Abuja and you will like to connect with a meeting we are having in Abuja on the 4th of June, you can reach out through the comments as well.

Kind Regards,

Adeolu Akinyemi.
