How to balance your drive for goals with a regular dose of gratitude and contentment

Many driven people have what is called a bucket list – A bucket list is a list of experiences, goals, or dreams that you want to achieve or fulfill in your lifetime. It’s a way of creating a roadmap for the things you want to do, see, and accomplish before you “kick the bucket. Bucket lists drive you and make you always have a list of things to look forward to. The downside, however, is that it leaves you little room to reflect and be grateful.

To meet this need, I discovered just today that there is such a thing as the reverse bucket list.

A reverse bucket list is a list of accomplishments, experiences, or milestones that you have already achieved in your life. It’s a way of reflecting on and celebrating the things you have accomplished rather than focusing on future goals.

Here are some examples of items you might include in a reverse bucket list:

1. Graduated from college or completed a degree program.

2. Traveled to a dream destination.

3. Started and successfully ran your own business.

4. Volunteered for a meaningful cause or organization.

5. Bought your first home.

6. Learned to play a musical instrument.

7. Overcame a personal fear or challenge.

8. Received an award or recognition for your work.

9. Published a book or achieved a significant writing milestone.

10. Completed a marathon or other physical fitness challenge.

11. Became a parent or grandparent.

12. Learned a new language.

13. Reconnected with a long-lost friend or family member.

14. Climbed a mountain or hiked a challenging trail.

15. Overcame a difficult health condition or injury.

Remember, a reverse bucket list is a personal reflection, so feel free to include any accomplishments or experiences that hold significance to you. It’s a powerful tool for recognizing and appreciating how far you have come in life.

Can you try and write your own reverse bucket list today? Do it, and thank God for how far he has brought you.

Kind Regards,

Adeolu Akinyemi.
