Church Vacation!

I Pastor a Church in Lagos called Heaven’s Citizens Christian Centre. A quick reminder, pastoring a church is different from owning a church. I don’t own this one, I only pastor for now.

God led me a few weeks ago to give members of the local assembly a Church vacation. We gave everyone a week off to go to other churches to listen and learn, and basically see if there are things they can learn, or places where they can add value in those other churches.

You see, we are not doing church for the numbers. We don’t pray to grow numerically. We know that what God is doing in the earth has nothing to do with numbers; it has to do with stature. If there are 10 mature Sons in Nigeria, the world will change! The harvest was ready before Christ died, what was missing was harvest hands. We are also not longing for people’s 10% or 5%.

We want people to have relationships with God, give 100% to Him through whatever channels he leads them, and we want them to give to church what they can give willingly and cheerfully. We remind people regularly that God doesn’t double their money when they give. If they work hard and think deeply into the future, and if God grants them vision, they will make a fortune without donating a penny in church.

Back to Church Vacation though. It was quite exciting for us all. We had the opportunity of going back to where we came from, and trying out new places, and seeing where we can learn, or where we can be sent.

The people came back with their insights and reports, even the Children were not left out! We encouraged our people to love, not judge and realize that what they see that they didn’t like, used to be every one of us. What they saw and liked, we can search the scriptures and see whether it’s in the pattern we have – Christ.

We know that the greatest onslaught on the kingdom of darkness is a united church. But we understand from scriptures that unity cannot be motivated. Unity is not a function of agreement; it’s a function of having one head. For as long as we all have individual agendas and are not absolutely surrendered to Christ’s heading, we can’t be one! The prayer for the Church is that they be one in US! John 17:20-21. Our unity is under the Headship of Christ. Any other unity without this head is tantamount to Babel!

There is no need to hold anybody down! All the people who worship with us don’t worship because there is nowhere to go! We are a tribe, and those who belong to that tribe find that their love for truth brings them close.
