YOU ARE BEING PREPARED

I remember how I felt many years ago as I passed from one interview to another in what would become my first job. After one test and about 5 interviews, I finally got an appointment letter that offered me a job as the Recruitment and Training Manager for a multinational company in West Africa. As I reminisced about the interview process and questions, something interesting struck me. I was fresh from school, but I had gained a lot of experience. You see, experience is not experience because you were paid to do it, experience is experience because you did it.

I wondered how come I had done all the things that the interview questions requested.
They wanted me to share an experience where I had provided leadership for others.
They wanted to know if I had solved any difficult problems
They wanted to know if I ever heard to broaden my knowledge in other to accomplish something
The questions were many and varied, but I somehow had about 2-3 examples per question.

I felt so prepared for the interviews
It dawned on me that somehow, I had been prepared.
I had been prepared for every tutorial I thought, every business venture I got involved in, the ones that failed, and the ones that succeed.
I had been prepared by the initiative to rebrand and redirect an academic group into exploit makers
I had been prepared by having the vision of a drama – AKERE and enlisting others to collaborate in making it happen
I had been prepared by running elections and campaigning to become President of EEESS

Somehow, while I was basically falling my inner compass, I was being prepared.
I got the job because I was prepared without really knowing.

I see the same flow in the Bible
Joseph was prepared
Esther was prepared
Ruth was prepared

You are also being prepared.

Everything that happens to you is preparing you for your unique future.
Everything!!

Everything includes
– That nudge you had to take that course
– The nudge you had not to take that course
– That investment you did that resulted in a loss
– That investment you did that gave you a break
– That job that you took taught you many things
– That job you took that offered you nothing but engaged your time
– That mistake you made
– That accomplishment you achieved

Everything, absolutely everything you have been through is preparing you for something interesting in the future. Knowing this allows you to face every challenge without losing steam. Knowing this makes you more deliberate in how you handle the things you face.

Bad occurrences are not worse than good occurrences in their abilities to prepare you for your unique features. All experiences are useful.
