The Auditorium was massive, the people were well dressed and good looking. There was a concentration of middle aged people – Men and women. I was in the congregation, listening intently to learn. I would normally not be there, but it seemed I decided to lay down my irritation, humble myself and learn. I was a sincere seeker.
The Pastor mounted the podium and began to preach. He’s a well known and popular Pastor (I’ll reserve his name), very confident and charismatic. He wore a blue suit – not exactly dapper but quite sharp. His words dropped like the rain, and all in the congregation returned rapt attention! This was going to be a good service. Everything was good, I was sincerely happy. Then something happened!
Still listening on with rapt attention, I realized the words were no longer coordinated and the Pastor began to laugh hysterically and make meaningless conclusions. It took me about 10 seconds to fully confirm – The Man of God had run mad! Mad, mad, mad – right before our eyes! I looked around to see if this reality was consensus with the crowd, but the crowd seemed divided – some were looking shocked, while some others were still busy downloading whatever he was saying into their hearts. I was looking around to find someone who I could at least hold hands and agree with, then I looked back at the stage and I saw a young man who had walked up the podium and was standing behind the Pastor with his arms stretched in a gesture as if to ask “What is happening here?”. As he did, it echoed the thoughts of those of us who were struggling with the current realities, but quick to their toes, the protocol guys came and bundled him out! The managers of the Man of God left him there on stage – raving mad, but kept him there to continue, as the bulk of the audience did not know the difference.
Then I woke up from my dream! What was God saying?
This dream would not have been so scary for me, except that it was my second dream on the same night. It was the night of Saturday 6th of February, 2016. The first dream was personal to me – it was short, clear and simple. I thought it was strictly about me, but I realized it was more general to my team. The scary part is, the first dream came to pass exactly as I had dreamt it 2 days after! The precision was 100%, in the dream there was a score, in reality the score was exactly the same, no deviations.
This dream is not about a particular man of God! No, it’s about the leadership of organized Church, not only in Nigeria but worldwide. The prophets are running mad, and those who should care and cover their shame, are too afraid to touch the “anointed”. When he begins to remove his clothes and dance naked, he must be displaying a new level of grace. I beg you let’s cover these men, not cover them up, but cover them in prayers, and cover them by publicly standing up for Christ and whisking them off limelight before they further denigrate and desecrate this faith that Jesus doubts he’ll meet in the earth. Please.
The Bible records the story of a prophet whose madness was stopped by a donkey, what the Americans would call an ass.
“They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; 16 but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man’s voice restrained the madness of the prophet.” 2 Peter 2:15,16
This prophet prophesied about the Messiah! He spoke passionately about the fact that silver or gold would not compromise him. This prophet was accurate in his prophecies, refusing to speak against God’s anointed (Israel). He spoke passionately as the oracle of God, but something fundamental had happened, and it was a dumb donkey that confronted and checked the prophets madness – how be it temporarily. Is today’s Christian dumber than an ass?
What went fundamentally wrong with Balaam? The Bible says he loved the wages of unrighteousness. When they came to entice him with prophets offering (divination money) the first time, he prayed, God told him not to go, and he refused to go! They came again, this time, he went back to pray with the idol of want and lust in his heart, he heard God’s “go”, then God sent an Angel to waylay him and would have killed him, if not by God’s mercy making the donkey to address the Prophets madness. What made the prophet mad? What he wanted! When we want money – it’s a letter to greed, when we want things – it’s an invitation to covetousness, when we want fame and honor we invite jealousy and selfish ambitions – all manifestations of the flesh.
