Welcome to the second half of the greatest match of your life- Year 2007. I don’t know how fulfilling this year has been for you, but if you are a regular on this channel, I’m sure it has been exciting. I don’t know how far ahead the first half moved you, or how many goals down you are, but I assure you, if what I see ahead for you is anything to go by, you will not only equalize, you will win! Half the Year is gone already, today, is the 3rd day in the second half, it’s 2am in the morning, I’ve been struggling to shut my eyes for almost an hour, but I’m so inspired tonight, that I can’t go to bed, without expressing the burning thoughts in my heart. There is nowhere I’m hurrying to tomorrow morning, I will write, that I might be refreshed.
One of the strongest themes that have reverberated consistently in my heart this year is the phrase, taking position. I don’t know how you see this year, but one thought that ever comes to mind whether I’m in deep meditation or trying to think ahead, is the caption – Taking Position. This year is a year, where people will take positions. It’s a year of transitions. Some we have experienced as a nation, but most we will experience as individuals. It’s not all that I expect to agree with me, but as many has have hearts who feel touched by this thought, I am sent. This year, you will take position!
The future is being settled today. The future doesn’t set in one day, those who would hold the reins are within it’s corridors today. The household names of tomorrow are not waiting for tomorrow to prepare, they are taking positions today. The Dangote’s of our generation, the Tayo Aderinokuns, the Jim Ovia’s, the Mike Adenuga’s, the Obasanjo’s, the Kind Sunny Ade’s, the Wole Soyinka’s, the Chinua Achebe’s, the big brands of our generation are not crawling on us in the future, they are taking position today! Today they are not known, today they wear no labels, bear no titles, are not clothed in royalty, but within the corners of their rooms, they lucubrate. All the world knows of them today, are a few comments here a there, a few quotable quotes every now and then, they are not yet on the throne, but they do not shy away from responsibility, they are not afraid of the burden of influence, nor are they bothered by the agonies of discipline.
Today, the deliverers of isreal, are in the most unfatomable places. Taking their education from the systems they will yet conquer. Their future is not determined by their past, but by the futures they see, and the prices they pay today. Relationships are being brokered, alliances being forged and covenants being cut. To loose the advantage that synergy brings is tantamount to waste. The leaders of our future, do not measure good by what exists, they measure based on the opportunity cost of not attaining. The hands that will bare rule are not lying idle today, they are taking positions in significant joinings.
My little peep into our political terrain marvels me. Does it not shock you, that we have been lead by the same set of people since our independence? Does it not seem to you like a concentric circle of conspiracy? Well believe it or not, the positions that are being occupied today, were set before my generation was born. In the same vein, today, the future lies in the hands of those who will take responsibility for it. The baton is changing hands in realm I’m too conversant with. There are vacancies, and those that have eyes, are taking position.
I remember a story I read over 14yrs ago. It was the story of an eagle in captivity. All it’s life, it lived and grew with chickens, and accepted it’s fate as a chicken. It had no worries in the world, no exceptional cares. What cares a chicken, but to eat, sleep and wake. On one fateful day however, the winds began to gather, lightening flashed in succession across the sky, and was duly replied by thunder. The skies began to darken – a storm was imminent. All the chicken ran for the frial shade of chicken pen. The young eagle looked up, and caught a sight in the sky… it say creatures like itself, soaring far in the sky, above where the impact of the storm had not sway. It looked up with longing in it’s eyes, it heard a cry, and something with it responded. It spread it wings to feel the rush of the wind, and the winds lifted it. It let it go, and it soared… he listened out for the cry of the birds in the ear, and it sounded very familiar…all of a sudden it realized, I do not belong here. I’m not a chicken, I’m an eagle!
I don’t know what life as a whole has made you put up with. I don’t know who you have accepted yourself to be. The storms are raging over our country Nigeria. In the midst of this confusion, in the midst of the impending storms and impending chaos, lies the answer to your true identity. The Eagles are currently in convoy. The future is done. Somewhere in your heart, you know this call is for you, feel the rush, let yourself go… Take Position!
