Have you ever wanted to win badly, put all your hopes into winning, and then lose? Maybe you applied for a scholarship for a masters, it looked like it was going to come through, but at the last minute, it fell through. Or maybe you had a deal you thought you had sealed that suddenly got loose. Or you had a good deal gone bad, and someone is publicly shaming you for it. There are so many times when we face defeat, even when we think what we deserve is victory. You have experienced this right?
One interesting discovery I have made however is that how you handle the defeat, can make that experience the last, or make that experience a part of a bigger experience. Many times, our victory is hidden in a momentary defeat. Many times, the attitude of humility that is necessary for your greater victory is derived from what your momentary defeats bestow on you. At some other times, it’s all just part of a bigger picture, and God pacing you out to be ready when the big victory comes.
One of the classical examples of victory hidden in defeat was the crucifixion of Jesus on the Cross of Calvary. To the devil and his team of demons, that was a moment of victory for them. On God’s side, however, all Jesus had to do was take it, surrender fully to its wrath, and what lay ahead just.72 hours ahead is the biggest victory ever recorded for any side in world history.
So the next time failure slams you, or someone puts you down because of a mistake you made or something that was literally your fault. Don’t let it get you bitter or mad. Surrender to the full process, and there and then, the people who are meant to see you, the opportunity that is meant to find you, will find its way to connect you, is locating you. Let your defeats keep you humble, God will lift you up in due season.
