Pastor Man and man, the pastor
Position
Pastor Man has a title
man, the pastor, has a job description
Pastor Man has a title that precedes his name
man, the pastor, has a role that surpasses his vanity
Pastor Man embodies the name; Pastor
man, the pastor, is just a man
Passion
Pastor Man lives for the honor of the office
man, the pastor, lives for the responsibility of the office
Pastor Man expects to be served
man, the pastor, just serves
Pastor Man looks for man’s admiration
man, the pastor, looks for God’s approval
Purpose
Pastor Man goes where he is celebrated
man, the pastor, goes where God leads
When Pastor Man speaks, he can say no wrong because God has spoken
When man, the pastor, speaks, he recognizes he’s a mere man with biases
Pastor Man pulls down the office to his level
man, the pastor, aspires to live up to the godly standards of his office
Perspective
Pastor Man exalts himself
man, the pastor exalts God
The title exalts the man but the function exalts the office
If Pastor Man dies, pastor died
If man, the pastor dies, then a mere man died
The true pastor has defeated death and hell, and lives on at the right hand of the Father. He cannot die.
Blessed are you when you are led by Pastor Man who is also, man, the pastor
But more blessed are you, when you are led by someone who insists on only being
man, the pastor
Prism
Aspiring to be called Pastor Man is a hollow exaltation. Reverend, Father, Canon, Primate, Dr., Deacon, Prophet, Evangelist, Teacher, Bishop, Apostle, Arch Bishop and more, Man has historically been bad with titles. Even Leaders and Kings have become tyrants as a result and spiritual titles don’t make this human temptation any less
dangerous. When this life is concluded Pastor Man would have received all his reward but man, the pastor’s reward will be in and for eternity. Selah!
1 Pet 5:2-4
Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly—not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. Don’t lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example. And when the Great Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of neverending glory and honor. (NLT)
