Our Envisioned Nigeria

My recent vacation to Dubai and South Africa were not only eye openers to the opportunities that existed outside our shores, they were also opportunities to see how we as a nation differ from the other countries. It was an opportunity to identify what we have that can move us far, and what we have that currently still stands us ahead.

I have tried to express passionately the visionary leadership that Dubai possesses, I have also tried to describe some the closest things to a man made heaven. From the visions they still have however, the best is even yet to happen. Just two days ago, I got informed that the world project is being sold already. The world project is a man made island patterned after the map of the world, with each continent as an Island. I quipped, that at least if one cannot be president over the real Nigeria, he can at least try to administer the Nigeria Island in the world project. South Africa also was filled with breathtaking sites, and great entertainment parks. I thought I had fun at the Wild Wadi Waterparks in Dubai until I experienced the Anaconda and Golden Heights at the Gold Reef Park. I don’t know what world South Africa is classified as, but I’m certain it’s far beyond our world.

Having seen all these, when I look back home, and see our current state my countenance falls, however when I think deeper and see what we could be, my heart is refreshed, for their is yet hope for Nigeria. Did you ask why? Let me show you what I see.

Visionary Leaders

One of the clearly distinguishing qualities that sets nations appart, is the quality of it’s leaders. The people who shape it’s future and steer it towards the dream. Sometimes, these leaders have the priviledge of elected office, sometimes however, they occupy leadership positions by the fact that they have influence. Many atimes positional leaders occupy the front position, and stretch into the future without followers ending up with a mere stroll, while the leaders of thought and the philosophies that the people buy into, leave their homes with the intention of a mere stroll and movements are begotten. The visionary leaders of Nigeria are emerging, they are men and women, born in the secrecy of a village manger, born without fanfare, without the royal army blood nor the geneology of relationships with the powers that be. They are artistic teachers who with their quotes and words paint the pictures of the future’s in our minds with ink that cannot be erased. Our visionary leaders are in the cocoon, waiting patiently for their wings to develop. Watch the film 300, read the story of Gideon in the Bible. The medicine does not need to be oversized to do it’s work. Those that bear the fulcrum on which the future of our nation hinges are already with us, it’s an army of few, and you are one of them. 70% of our population are under 30. Imagine what can happen if we take charge of this generation!!

Workforce

The chinese language is fast becoming a language of the future, with the impending economicย  takeover by the chinese economy. One of the key elements that pushes China ahead, is it’s workforce. With a seemingly disadvantageous population of over a billion, China has positioned itself as the worlds manufacturing center. The cheapest prices of whatever you want can be found in China. That shirt that costs you N15,000 was probably made in China, and left china at N300 without the logo. Nigeria is the most populous black nation on the planet. With a little tweak in our policies, we can position ourselves to take the maximum advantage of our numbers.

The Nigerian Spirit

In any country on earth, it’s easy to know a Nigerian appart. We are cocky confident, passionate, diehard optimists and sharp. You know why stories of suicide are never rampant in our nation? It’s because the broke gate man, believes that as long as there is life, there is hope. His motto is, “no Condition is permanent”. He believes strongly that if he ends up a looser today, he starts on a fresh page tomorrow. I marveled at the laissez-faireย  attitude of the average South African, here is a guy with a National Passport that is Visa free to 95 of the choice countries in the world, languishing with a degree and sitting at home. Contrast that with Nigerians I have met, who practically made their way by road (car, camel and feet) from Nigeria to Morocco just to get over to the United Kingdom. Our will to survive is strong! If we put this spirit behind the emergence of our New Nigeria, we are unstoppable.

Human Capital

Guess it’s hard to be judge in my own court, however a survey of any of these fields, Medicine, Engineering, Technology, Economics, e.t.c, will reveal that some of the best brains in the world are Nigerian. An informed professor I was opportuned to listen to, categorically said that in any one of these fields if a meeting of the top 10 would be called, there’ll be Nigerians amongst them. That if the No 1 Citizen in America had an emergency operation today, a Nigerian will be on that operating table. I am yet to hear from any of my friends and classmates who went for any part of their education outside our shores who is not top 1-5% in his class. As far as I’m concerned, we were blessed not only with numbers, but with intellect. When we pass through the international checkpoints and say we have nothing to declare, we lie. There is sufficient between our ears to declare. Yahoo yahoo is an abuse of intelligence, it’s a perversion of business acumen. We only need to channel and harness this latent energy for the greater good of our nation.

Social Culture

One of the other key things we are blessed with that distinguishes us from other nations is our networking. We sincerely care about getting in touch, socializing with family and friends and actually relating with our neighbours. There is a lot we can achieve via the power of synergy, and we have a culture that draws us together, making us more powerful.

Natural Resources

I understand that a CIA report has it, that the most precious natural resource that Nigeria has is surface table water. Not oil, not gold, toumaline or tantalite. Surface water. There is still much oil in the land neither do we have a scarcity of arable land. We are also still discovering new precious metals and gemstones. If we tap 1/4 of our resources, and channel the funds aright we can become a wonder to the cities around us.

The Nigeria of our dream will not arrive without effort, neither will it emerge by solo effort, but as we align and create the picture of what we would have it be we’ll get there. Slowly but surely, the snail also made it into Noah’s ark

Three hearty cheers to a Nigeria that celebrates 1yr+ of uninterrupted power supply, a Nigeria without potholes, a Nigeria with 8 lane highways, a Nigeria with banks that fund the real sector, a Nigeria where the common man can get bank credit, a Nigeria where things work, a Nigeria whose passport and residency is sought after, a Nigeria that it’s citizens are proud of associating with. Let’s bring back the glory!

Oga D, glad to have you back sir! I cant agree more on the Naija identity….its a mystery really why we seem not to have yet transformed this latent energy to results…..
perhaps with the army of ‘new Nigerians’ that is evolving, there’s hope….but hope is never enough! Its annoying to see the path being charted by our political leaders for we: the future of Ngr……perhaps bcos they’ve enjoyed the ‘best’ of what the country had got to offer when most of them were in the university on state scholarship….up to overseas.

…yet they seem to care less about how we’re catered for in the various higher institutions…….the breeding ground of our future leaders.

What worries me most therefore is the mindset of the youths of this country…who have resigned to the believe that you can not be wealthy without stealing!

If this hope is to be turned into reality, we have to strive to help change this mindset in as many youths around us as God will help us…….

Thats why i’m grateful to God for the kind of leadership you provide Deolu et al. The harvest is indeed plenty…..but…..

I got to the end of this article with wet eyes. I have always believed in the Nigeria Project. We are too blessed that we can’t but make our mark. We have the brains, we have the natural resources, and we are a people that believes. We have the faith that is uncommon among other peoples.

I presently (and temporarily) stay in the UK and I must say we, in Nigeria have the best of weathers.

We must work on our synergy, we must work as one, lets bring our resources together, and build a Nigeria that will shake the world.

The time is now, that the army recruits (Generals of tomorrow) must come together to strategise about the campaigns of teh future.

NIGERIA SHALL BE GREAT! NO SHAKING!!

Deolu u are too much, the holyspirit taught me something which I think alligns with ur thot. he told that life are happenings. And he told that the raw material with which to create events are words… they are the raw materials for creating whether good or bad stuff. I think we should appeal to the press guyz. to start using the media to say good things about this country. they should prophecy good things. good stories do sell if not the tony robbins, robert kiyosak, sam adeyemi, oyedepo, deolu akinyemi and oderinlo oluwatoyin of this world will be poor.

    Hi Adeolu,
This is another powerful piece from you again but more importantly i see this one as a pathway or beginning of a process to consolidating all the impact, deposit of value and opportunities this website has offered most Nigerian youths worldwide till date. I believe very, very strongly in Nigeria, i’m proud to be one despite the negative popularity we have around the world, all we need to do is to out-weigh the negative with positive.
Surely a New Nigeria is about to Emerge, my thought is this, even it is only the great minds that gather together on this blog form a force to pursue a vision great things will happen in Nigeria very soon, how much more i believe that the number of people will multiply as soon as the vision is set.

    @All
I believe, this piece is a clarion call for us all, we cannot continue to wait for government or focus our energy on blaming them, we can create a new Nigeria what we want Her to look like ourselves in our own capacity, it’s time for constructive action not complain, it’s time to start taking steps to implement and actualise all the great ideas we have with effort of TOGETHERNESS, we can come together holding seminars or conferences to impact the Vision of new Nigeria into ourselves, LET THE REVOLUTION BEGINS, Nigeria is Blessed and we are all Bleesed too, cheers.

This is encouraging. Can you also compare the 50s to this era as we know that there are changes and Nigeria is getting better.Who is your neighbour? SHOW LOVE. The young ones should come together contribute minimum of 100 naira each and establish a farmland for (food processing) such as tomatoes, pepper, vegetables ,nuts and employ the less priveledged and underemployed in the society it will curb crime and encourage private participation. The young should take a giant step.

I read most of your write-ups and i agree with most of your views. You talk about Nigerians being optimistic, well yes and no.Most Nigerians only believe in what they regard as “Normal”.I’m in the accountancy profession and most of my people can’t just believe in the workability of well thought schemes like club freedom. It’s good you have a community of optimists.People that you have shared the same views and ideas and people you have brought up after they have seen things happening to you.You talk about leadership and i wonder who the leaders are.So much rubbish has been made of bodies that are supposed to correct wrongs. Most of have leaders are rogues but they are stil being treated with all respect.Compare the punishments being given to corrupt leaders in Asia to what happens here in our country.we hope and pray that our the present leadership treats matters the way they should be treated. The present situation in the Niger delta could spread around the whole nation if care is not taken.I would be in a position to give anectdotes and just sample replies from people in a very short while.I have not read the whole write -up you did now,i just read up to the human capital part.God bless our country

Nigeria shall sure be great once we move from having potetentials to activating all the the potentials into kineting energy so to say! why are nigerians having problems? a mixture of poor leadership and problematic followership! each of our leaders came from the larger populace and previously was a follower too! we all have selfish attitude and have very low threshold of critism! you wake up in the morning in your house and as a man or woman you are a leader! how well are you leading in your home? you get behind the steering of your vehicle and you assume another leadership role! how well do we lead while we drive? one way driving? refusing to abide by the highway code?abusing and yelling at each other in the vehicle? encouraging the bus driver to disobey traffic laws? and many more!
once we get to our offices, we assume the Gods of the land, unapprachable and all knowing! gossing instead of working at times? only waiting to be paid at the end of the month!
some that are in higher posiition of powers use this to favour only kinsmen and cronies! all about settling political IOUs…….
nigeria sure has a lot of great things awaiting physical manifestation and we younger generations should search our hearts and start the change in the right diractions! we shall get there by doing it right! spread the action word….. do it right henceforth

With much respect, can we put something into real action….so much has been said here…..any collective ideas that can be implemented going forward?

Let’s commence somthing no matter how small…..Dee…if you spearhead, i am sure some decent equity will be raised within 24 hours through the fora if something concrete can be done immediately. I sometimes get weary about inaction….yeah, we can all go out there to do our own things…..but can you imagine if we agreed on one LARGE PROJECT and go ahead to promote and run IT?

my brother u are right we have this die hard attitude as in nothing shakes us. so many events that ahve happened in the past that ougt to caused some kind of war but who will fight? yorubas are people who believe that its better to be patient cos of the children nobody wants to fught but push on and see a ray of hope in every new day that God gives. looking at the present leadership in the country well i think we might just be on our way to better things and these days you hear God’s children praying passionately for the leaders. i saw the transport minister on her way to putting right on our roads may God grant her the courage and strenght to do, i saw the dg copyrights commission on his way to eradicating piracy may God give him the grace to do it.yesterday yar adua was looking very determined to get china to look for alternative means of generating power i strongly interceded for his moves and for his heart to be resolute on this cos power is the backbone of any development at all. there is hope my friends pls lets pray for the leaders and lets support their positive moves.

There is good momentum in this atmosphere for something big, but don’t leave out the “our own things” or “something small” part. The drift is always from faithfulness in little things to commitment to greater works. The holy writ concurs to this fact absolutely. I beg the house, keep talking but by all means do something.

I quite agree with Deolu on the potential Nigeria has to be great. There are so many honest and capable people out there, it’s just for the govt to give thyem a chance to perform. My bit to the house is for every Nigerian to be an agent of change no mata how little a way. Stop dropping refuse on our streets- that would clean up Nigeria and if you are close to someone who does that, either correct the person or pick it up. It doesnt change who u are. Also we can all try to obey traffic and road rules. Park arite to stop traffic jams. Obey traffic lights. These are some of the things each individual can do to contribute to the attainment of a great Nigeria.
God help us to do this.

I think I agree with wale Akinola. I think we can start a vanguard here, it could be developmental or to eradicate one corrupt practice from the nation. personally I dont like the embarrasment police cause motor users, indiscriminate harrasment, another is the agbero menace which is the cause of high amount paid for transportation in lagos. I am sure we have lawyers in this forum we can start a club where we encourage people to go to police station rather than give bribe. and they are provided with free litigation. we just need to win a case and we would have corrected a menace. police dont have any business checking vehicle particulars, it is the work of the VIO but they do it all the time and get away with it. this is my thot, deolu think about something I will 100% part of it. it is time for action enough of issue raising in this country. Hi Folks,
Another thing thart i think will go a long way in fighting corruption in nigeria, is to speak out against the ordinary individuals who live amongst us and go on pushing others into corruption, always disparaging people who donot want to conform to do the Bad,they are your friends, cousins, brothers, sisters, neighbours… who say you are are a big boy and therefore you must not use a simple phone, but the most expensive ones around, drive the latest cars, wear the most expensive clothings, always saying that bros get money after all na chairman office he dey work!always giving nuances to suggest you are hiding money from them, just because you are living a simple life.
i won’t expect any of us who talked on this forum to get involved in such annoying behaviour.we should stop expecting the next man to be corrupt and we should express shock and dismay when they have been involved.then stand up to stop whoever you think is edging someone else to corrupt practices
Else we shall all be flogging deadx horses with just all these lip service. Come and see very comfortable Oyibo Man in South Africa using their 3310 nokia and nobody is abusing them, and we now come here complaining when we are the cause! Abeg for una Office make anybody use the kind car , fone , shirt, whatever, provided they are neat and get the work done! Ah Ah!!!

    @ All

I remember a short folk tale about the cat and rats in the animal kingdom – the rats hatched a plan to be alerted when the cat was approaching their base/habitation but an herculean task to be achieved in this venture of theirs’ was to bell the cat. They wondered who will be bold enough to bell the cat obviously you know the end – Nobody was courageous enough to bell the cat because the exit (death) of such rat into outer space (non-return visa) would have been celebrated.

Its really very encouraging and very good that our hearts still pant positively for a New Nigeria – Project Nigeria and that we are passionate about making her the country of our dream – The next step is to ‘Bell the Cat’ or if I am permitted, we can call it Bell The Cat Project Group- BeTCaP Group to awake the sleeping giant – Nigeria.

The main focus is to serve a catalysts for change (speed up the process completely). We can have about 5 key areas of focus….one vital area is re-orientation of mindsets (which I believe Deolu, Gbenga Sesan and many others are already doing through the Mentoring Programme). Folks in Diaspora can contribute financially towards this to facilitate things (Money answereth all things) and when they are in Nigeria…they can always contribute in kind. We can also work with a Modus Operandi for the group which will guide our actions and speak for us. Some other aspects that can serve as focal points include but not restricted to these are; Traffic/Road Corruption (an area where we can look into ridding our society of ALL negative things such as bribing, vehicle road worthiness, traffic laws & compliance), Youths (look into ways of getting at least 50% of this large part of our population to be really productive), Health Monitoring (a panacea to help or serve as voice for the people such that funds/contracts/budget awarded towards this sector be it under a Local govt, State or even Federal is truly utilized – as I believe we can actually have the best of health care facilities in Nigeria and affordable as well (Health is wealth).

I believe like the men n women of the Bible who conceived the idea of building a tower that will reach unto the sky, it was recorded that even God acknowledged that all they had planned will happen except he changed their language – meaning with one voice in the house, we can set out and lay the plans bare, criticize and analyze until we fine tune then LAUNCH OUT BIG TIME.

My blood is boiling,my heart races,Im begining to see ray of light at the consuming darkness we have being.
The chair, morakinyo.Wale Akinola,Peter Oluokun et all have all articulated the Nigerian malaise, have started to profer pragmatic solutions.
About 19 years ago as a well site geologist with Texaco Overseas (Nigeria) ,I in the company of an Egyptian expartriate ,Mousa, had to travel from Lagos to Warri by road because we could not fly Aerocontractors because of bad weather.
On getting to Ore the Egyptian remaked that he had counted over 30 rivers.streams-big an small;I said “what abot it” Mousa shook his head, stamped his 2feet on the floor of the car .With tears almost coming out of his eyes he said “WE ONLY HAVE ONE RIVER ,NILE,IN EGYPT” Nile is used to generate electricity, irrigate farmlands, to produce food, processed for drinking, provide tourist destination etc, etc.I got his point .It was my turn to have tearful eyes.what do we do with these rivers?Israel is a leading agricultural country in the world, despite being water supply challenged.
This story corroborates and affirm CIAs assertion that Surface Table Water is our greatest resouce.CIA is wrong anyway because our greaest resource is OUR MINDS.
The revolution has already started.JUST THAT WE TO TAKE IT BEYOND deoluakinyemi.com.
The revolution should be called Change Movement. You know the word Revolution suggests like what Rawlings did to the Geherals in Ghana. As suggested by P.Oluokun,Morak and O.O.James The news of this blowing wind of change must be spread across the length and reath of our country by immediately establishing a CHANG-EZENE! The newspaper will be for all,old and young, who have been waiting to welcome the Nigeria of our dream.
The paper will fomulate policies, mould public opinions, fight undesireable practices, lambast rent /interest collectors and shyllocks called banks .In short positively influence governance.
We have to start taking action “Small small”

Nice concept Gbenguz….The Newspaper can serve a Tool to drive home our Message. It would also help to spread positive things through the Print Media other than the negative things that come out from our print media most times.

More Ideas house….let us begin to fill puzzle and block all loose ends until we build the formidable team we are truly capable of forming.

Hmmm! Our envisioned Nigeria will surely come if we keep our present lines of thots but it will cost us all,it wont be palatable coz some of us are used to a nigeria where not so many things work and what shouldnt be the norm,we have come to accept as alright.Last friday i was at the UK embassy to submit an application for UK visa for my sonwho is 4mths old.i had him endorsed on my passport as i didnt want to go thru the stress of getting his intl passport.Well,i was turned back that UK no longer accepts that practice of endorsement of children under 1yr on mother’s passport, even a day old needs a passport if he must obtain visa to the UK.This came as a rude shock and it was going to make the planned family vacation 2nd wk of october an impossibilty.i quickly called up my contact(one of the touts/agents) at the passport office,we agreed to meet at the Festac passport office in 90mins.i got there and he told me the system has changed a great deal oh,that festac office was too tight,u cant jump the queue, cant fast track anything there, that we shld do it in his territory i.e Ikoyi passport office.i gave him 13k for the passport and all other things he said needed done.we parted and agreed to meet on wednesday that he would have pushed the file to the last stage. i got there wit my baby in my hands ready to dash into the production room, get my son to take that snap shot, then wait for 2days to get the intl passport out and submit it for UK visa that will take about 2weeks .we were running out of time as my husband’s leave days and mine have already been fixed.how wrong i was,my agent hasnt pushed our file at all,he wasnt able to coz there was this lady officer, the most senior as far as production of passport at Ikoyi passport office is concerned who pitched her tent just by the entrance into the production room and would not allow ‘the boys /touts/agents’ smuggle in their clients, she turned back every and anybody, allowing only those who had their slots for that day alone, even with yr baby crying, she would encourage you to submit your form and wait for the list that will state the day you should come for the scan, due process!Different shades and modes of lies from pple all in the bid to deceive her into giving them a pass. This woman didnt bulge oh,except for very few cases of emergency, not like resuming in school in few days and needing visa, not like we have bought our tickets, not like my baby is running temp,or i had to withrdaw my children from boarding house to come get the passport done.no way.agents were busy teaching their clients all kinds of lie to tell the woman.
i stood under the sun carrying my baby for over 3hrs,i didnt want to follow any due process,i wanted any kind of intervention at all,one that would get my baby scanned at an earlier date than what i was likely to get if i submit as expected (most likely 8th/9th Oct).My first reaction was, there shld be a way to avoid having to wait for some list saying i should come back 1st/2nd week of Oct to scan.i didnt appreciate at all what that woman officer was up to,i eventually resigned to fate and got my form submitted ready to forfeit our vacation to UK this October. On my way out, while complaining to my agent that he didnt live up to expectation unlike the other time 2yrs ago for my daughter,i heard several other clients too ironing it out with their agents and the agents saying life/business was becoming more difficult by the day courtesy that lady officer.
She commands so much respect, was very transparent to all, signed on all files that were duely submitted hence made it impossible for files to be smuggled into the production room.even her male colleagues could not send in their clients, her colleagues complained that she was spoiling biz for them big time.
Nigerians that had submitted as they should had a great time, they were happy, they could predict when they would be called in and when they would be through.
It was finally on my way back home that i started thinking rightly that Nigerians actually need more officers like that woman.

Lets be ready to pay the price and encourage pple doing the right things and not make them look like they are aliens!

As i am about writing this i was watching what happened yesterday over the scandal in house of representative. my question is has she gained in anyway from the contract which i think is most important. I am not saying what she has done and she has not done. i think we should embrace the rule of law in this nation, we all want to be the judge, refusing to remove the small specks in our eyes. always willing to remove the log of wood in others people’s eye. so the problem we have in this country. http://www.highdayinternational.com

    @All,

I quite agree that we have sufficient energies here to push something from here that can cascade into a really big project.

I think I like the idea of starting with a lowcost/free publication. This will have the role of re-orientation, formulating policies, creating pathways to the vision of the future, and growing a team of people that can see ahead. Content will not be hard, I can see beautiful thought lines forming from here already, and most of our thoughts here are publishable.

I think we already also have people who can champion this course here on this forum… We can get the benefit of gender balance (male and female), location free perspectives (People scattered everywhere in Nigeria and in diaspora) and diversity of backgrounds. We can also use this post to lead thoughts and content around various topics and have print ready weekly… just my thoughts. We can elect someone with enough passion on this to lead this project, I promise my absolute support.

It’s a good sign that there are many of us out there, that have reasons to believe in our emergence, what will cause the change is not out there, it’s in here, and trust me folks, we can do it! All we need to do, is start!

Glad to read Deolu’s lines before dashing for the days run.
Pls let us set the time table and agenda to get started.

    @ Stafunmi.
I really ennjoyed the way you captured Nigeria’s situation. We have all gone through this-Use of touts and agents.
Years back I visited a resort with my family and tourists were trying to enter into a particular event venue.
2 lines were formed to get in ..People on the very very long line paid $2 to get in.I went to check on the shorter line why it remained short. There is oppotunity in every difficulty.
The short line is called “FAST TRACK” which attracts $8 access.Of course we called it a day for that event and looked else where.
The passport office should have fast track for people who are in a rush and can afford cost of rushing.A lesson was learnt that there is always a solution to any problem.
An important and quick way to fix Nigeria is to copy how problems are solved in Developed countries. This will make our tasks easier.

“Behold i saw satan fall like lightening”, “The Light shines in the darkness and darkness could not hold it”. The clouds are gathering, its about to rain, its a new dawn my fellow Nigerians, together we stand, together we will succeed and actualise Nigeria of our dreams.

Great ideas have been suggested so far, i believe many more will still come. I guess Deolu is waiting for more comments and ideas so as to ruminate on all together at a go. The answer to the question “who shall bell the cat” is not virtual anymore in as much that strong passionate comment are rolling in like this. Adeolu published the article, many of us have agreed with him with strong passion and perhaps determination, then i believe the question is answered and the army is forming already.

Adeolu, you have been priviledged by God to frontier this idea to the public, it has attracted many other youth leaders of like mind because i can feel them on this blog, numerous Nigerian youth all across the globe are happy for this ray of hope ( this post has been read by over 20,000 people), please be stronger destiny is calling.

I quite agree with Gbengus idea of using the media to as a tool to project our vision, infact i see it as one of the most powerful tool at our reach and a good starting point too, by this many more people of like minds will be attracted. Mentoring Programme with Gbenga Sesan and Deolu is already a platform as far as i know, i believe many others exist, lets hold a summit to fine tune the logistics, we are unstoppable, A NEW NIGERIA IS HERE WITH US, God will help us.

    @stafunmi
I must say i appreciate your openess, you have made a very strong point which should also be our focus too as we project the New Nigeria Vision, “Judgement must start from within the house”

Yesternight, i spoke to a friend in Nigeria who was asking for my opinion as regards HSMP and i told him its not a bad idea once he is qualified then he told me one of the factors against him is age and so he has done another passport with a lower age, i was shocked not because it is new to hear that but from him, i was speachless for a moment then we went on with our discussion mainly to market Ecash-Invest. Afterwards, i was reflecting on reaction, the point is i should told him at least in my own way that it wrong for him to reduce his age, he was telling me he has 2 passports, i made up my mind at least i will tell him my opinion when next we talk which will be this weekend anyway.
My point is that we should start discouraging corruption by every opportunity we have, if everyone in this house are participating in any corrupt or lwaless doing, also we went ahead to convert 3 people around us each and we moved on in MLM format, yet a little while something great will happen.
Lastly, one beautiful culture i have seen happen in UK is to acknowledge and honour right doing. Several awards for patriotic actions exist from government, royal family, pressure groups, NGOs and so on. For example, after the 7/7 Bomb attack, i have seen my many brave common individuals honoured and rewarded for bravery, rescuing people at risk of their life, somehow this encourages more people to act alike.
Like that woman at the passport office, i believe the house can arrange something to acknowledge and honour her by this many like her can be raised, over to the house, cheers.

I have been up all day and night for 3 straight days due to a deadline on an official assignment until yesterday when my body couldn’t take it any longer. Yet in the midst of the serious work and attendant exhaustion, I couldn’t resist checking my email intermittently once my email client reports a new mail from this thread. The excitement I feel about this thread and from the various responses is only surpassed by the couple of days before my marriage to my lovely wife.

I agree totally with the idea of the publication, the only thing abeg, is that it must be thoroughly and professionally approached. I trust that being a veteran in HR and other relates, our chairman would know how to approach it and execute it (off course we’ll do it together, all of us). We need round pegs in round holes. We need to engage the principle of due process, embrace the tenets of the rule of law etc. We need both Character and Reputation in this. Character presents who we really are. Reputation reflects how we’re perceived. Both are vitally important.

Another thing is that, deoluakinyemi.com is an online community. I know few other communities like these and I perceive there are a few others unknown by myself but known to others. We need to bring them in to be part of this train. We need as many people as share our idea of an ideal Nigeria. According to the story of creation documented in the holy writ, God said “LET US CREATE…”. The “Let us” Spirit is the spirit of the scriptures. I am saying “LET US CREATE…” and the “us” is referring to people of like minds.

    We will get there.

I support the idea of the magazine whole heartedly. where citizens will be educated about their rights. corruption will be clearly spelt out. my people will be discouraged from smuggling tokunbo cars into nigeria from cotonou, and allow the police to take advantage of the irregularities in papers to harass them, even some churches do it and praise the lord over it. graduates will be taught negotiating power for being gainfully employed, so that they wont see themselves as victims of employer. we are made to believe lot of falsehood in this country like the voters dont have power over their votes. so the rigging by the ploticians cannot be stopped, it is only available i disagree. Ojo madueke must continue to represent abia state. Adedibu, tinubu, obasanjo must determine their successors whether nigerians likes it or not. lies like there are no jobs in the country so if i get employed it is a testimony so i am at mercy of my employer. what we lack is negotiating power. bible says we are all part of the same body, every body has a role to play not only in this project call nigeria, but in the world project. deolu i am getting angry, you remind of the second revolution by pastor sam. we have to start the confrontation now, this magazine will do the magic it will become a best seller in its first month. then we would have formed an army that is beyond this webpage. confront the IG of police, NCC, INEC, National assembly, the presidency demand that which is our right as naijas. I am getting angry like pastor sunday adelaja did in ukraine. i think we all need anger. why will a graduate be forced to falsify his age to get employed. when ASUU was the one that went on strike for years to delay the guy in school. get angry with the lecturer that poses questions such as define, state a formula and proof. the lecturer that force you to cram at night against your will. but I am suggesting basket mouth as the magazine name, not one technical name i think a name that all naijas can identify with, so that it i will not end up to become one celebrity magazine. deolu this is a clarion call on you, you are the senate president. as i was writing this piece police got into my cafe carted away a guy claiming they are on routine check up. that is the way they do around here today is a friday they will get to okada riders point collect weekend money, mechanic workshop collect. unfortunately i called my lawyer he is telling me police should be allowed to do their job, is it the job of the police to harass citizens i think i will have to change my lawyer. the other time my vehicle was detained for carrying fake vehicles which was procured from a local govt. do i get punished for being duped, I am angry, angry, angry… lets act fast if not we might just be next victim.

I believe that’s the begining of the solution to the many problems plaguing us in our dear country.

I believe everyone should be able to look inwards and acknowledge that they’ve been wrong.

Most people would have left the passport office feeling like a “VICTIM”, and complaining that the woman was too “HARSH”.

Members of this Laudable Project and Dynamic Initiative, I am really overjoyed by the depth of thoughts, concepts and ideas that have been shared on this thread… I think this particular thread will never be forgotten in the Annals of the stages/phases that would evolve in this reformation process.

Oderinlo James – kudos to your brother for providing the platform for the meeting of great minds….like I said in my earlier comment, we can define our Modus Operandi through this meeting and then launch out. This truly a collective work that will demand a lot of sacrifice and perseverance from all of us….we won’t faint but WIN by the special grace of GOD.

Even as Oderinlo James have initiated the process, my honourable friend n Senate President of this Forum; Adeolu Akinyemi over to you, some of us are not in Nigeria now but I know we can contribute by making financial commitments towards this project, sharing information, writing articles and forwarding models that have worked out here to the initiative until we effectively become a household name in Nigeria – A community of Change Agents.

Let the date be set for our inaugural meeting and let the process begin.

    House,

Now we are moving and shaking minds, not breaking bones and throwing chairs! Good start!

I have long harboured a project revolving around making essential financial information free for a good number of the youth (the down-trodden youth especially), and have been able to gather some materials which i pledge to give up to this noble project.

It has been planned as a series of self help books but since I needed it to be given out free of charge, i have not been able to attend to the nitty gritty of financing it. Thus with this forum’s initaitive, i hereby pledge to give up the material i have gathered thus far (though in book form) without any recourse to income gained from the works and wish to state here that i will hand over the material to Deolu himself. I admire him and believe in his abilities as well as those who contribute to firing the imagination of we the Senate members of this National House of Intelligensia.

Deolu, expect a soft copy of the material i have gathered thus far (it is far from complete (as per the intended fininshed material) though i believe you can contribute your bit to help complete it!).

What date shall we meet? Investors, over to you…..

I think I have an idea this honourable house can power together. I think it is possible and we can begin to make impact and start the revolution all the way. The advert of Globacom rule your world, I think we can take them up on that and sell the idea of them financing a youth conference in the six geopolitical zone in nigeria. theme, rule your world, where speakers will be invited to motivate the youth to rule their world. It is an idea I have been nursing but I open heartedly release to this house. Guiness too has a similar advert I think any of them or two of them combined should be able to finance the project.

I feel so happy to see my brother Oderinlo o. James trying to give his best few monthss after i told him about this exciting site…

I am glad something this positive is about to kick-off at last and i will be more than glad to be a part of it even if am just an on-looker, but i know i will be more than that. I am too loaded to be just an onlooker.

I have always dreamed of a been a part of a movement for change, i have always wanted to be the voice of the week and the proctector of the less-priviledged. I have always thought of a day when i will be in the fore-front of a revolution that will make Naija one of the Many wonders of the world, and put her in her right place.

I have always prayed for a day when the likes of the Chairman of Ayobo/Ipaja local government council area will be made accountable for the mis-managements of funds and revenue aloted to him in the last 4years, I will be glad to witness the scene where he will explain how the Green Plate-Number of his Official Toyota SL got missen and was replaced with a Blue new private Number. I will love to be there when the DPO of Alagolo police station is made to explain why his men extort money from people and motorist both day and nite with fear, where the money they get go to and his duty as a DPO analysed with the rave of crime and harrasment going on his locality…I believe it has to start in our locality before we take the march to Alausa or Aso Rock.

I wil love to love to place an article in the proposed magazine every time it is published and i believe Basket Mouth will be a nice name cos it will carry the people along and yet send the signal to all concerned.

About the sponsors, I believe MTN should be a lovely Inclusion in the prospectives…list.. They’ve been doing a lot of stuffs that has to do with the youths, and i believe its time they take it to the positive side of the youths, not just music & stuffs…Good information is should be part of there game, and they can be the voice of the people. Glo goes with it already and NBL .. i no say he no easy, but >>>Man D— oga me sir, i think you can help abit with that…and anybody else who can do a thing ot two should not back-out…

I agree totally with everything you wrote on the ‘envisioned Nigeria’.I am one of those who believe strongly that Nigeria has more than is enough to be a giant ,not only of Africa but of the world.Nigerians are among the most resourceful, most enterprising and most resilient. The only thing we need to do is to embrace change in every area of our national lives. It is only by doing that that we can usher in a Nigeria that will be a pride to Nigerians and an envy of other countries. We must make up our minds to always act right in everything we do whether or not anybody is looking at us.For those who are weary of doing good ‘cos they think they are the only ones,I want to tell you that you have brothers and sisters in some of us.I have decided as a matter of principle to always end my speech at public functions with a word about Nigeria. For those who are spoiling our image(yahooyahoo),I will like to admonish them to desist from such acts ,there are so many ways of making cool money. One of the ways is what I teach on my blog:www.iretiishola.blogspot.com-how to make money from shares.

How many of us know who our senators and representatives are; both nationally and locally. I am from Surulere and I dont who these people are.

First we need to know them because they represent us. Whatever they do is representative of us as citizens. If they represent US they MUST be accountable to us. Therefore let’s get their information and publish it. Let us email, text, call, and write letters to them.

Lets invite them to functions and ask them to be transparent. If our present law are too kind to corrupt politicians let us sponsor new bills or amend the current ones and make them harsher like that of China where politicians are killed for lying not to mention stealing of public funds.

Our speaker in the lower house is using our public fund to buy fleet of us$100,000 S-class as official cars. What is wrong with Toyota Camry.
That money can be used to equip our police and increase their salary.

Remember that Democracy is government of the people by the people.

Judging by the number of people who visit this website and the kind of feedback I’m seeing, I believe that there are quite a few Nigerians out there who are itching for a change in this country and (hopefully) willing to partake in the change. Even if it’s just a handful of dedicated Nigerians there is no reason why we can’t make it. I, for one, am one who is desperate for a turn around in this country. I am glad to see Deolu breakdown the many opportunities available to us. It is now left us to work towards renewing our minds and orientation. It has to start somewhere and I believe the time is now and the place is right where we live. I read an email a few days ago that said ‘let it begin from the churches’. Let’s set good examples whereever we are. The onus is on anybody in a position of authority (manager, supervisor, head of family, pastor etc). It starts right there and it starts now. I don’t think there is going to be any parting of the sea or heavenly miracle to show the turning point. It will have to come from you and I. It’s not just about a change in our political leaders, it’s about a change in all of US!!!

all suggestions as just been falling into the right place, but i believe that if there is going to be any change, we should start with ourselves, the people around us, only then can we take the movement to the next level.

It is true and very important for us to know the people that stands in our place in the sit of power, not everyone knows who represents where in the different houses at both State and federal level. Once the movement kicks-off, i believe we should involve the different people that represents us and make them do that which is right. Nigeria is gona be great, but notin go change if we sidon like say he no concern us.

Tell someone today that Naija go better very soon. I know that things are gonna change and be very very good when i am young and still very much in my prime. But it might never change if i sit down and do nothing. This applies to everyone and i believe that everyone out here is ready for the revolution.

The time is now, lets make things work.

Our leaders must be accountable to US. If anyone has information about them pls lets publish it. Pls get their email and let them know we are ready for a NEW Nigeria. They are not in Abuja to share our NATIONAL CAKE. They are supposed to have offices in their states as well, not only in ABUJA. Where are these offices? I am sure they get allocation for them.

The main duty of the House of Assembly is to create laws-simply. They are elected to reflect issues that affect their locality. For example, the legislator who represent Surulere will begin by having a home in surelere, having an office in Surelere, then in ABUJA. He or she must be accessibe to people from surulere because he or she was elected to represent Surulere and serve our interest not LORD over us.

His job is to try and influence laws that will benefit Surulere. Such as ensuring that there are new employment, Police security, education, health, clean enviroment and good roads. There must be transparency as well. We should know how much Surulere gets and we should be part of how it should be spent. Dont let those OLD fools destroy our future.

What are their names and address?. Please unmask them. If they mess up. We will petition EFCC and IPCP as a body, lobby to have them impeached and sponsor a legal action against an errent leader. Eventually we will work together to elect another person who will reflect a New Nigeria.

This is just an example using Surulere, it can be replicated in Mokola in Ibadan, or Isoku in Ijebu Ode or anywhere in Nigeria.

I am proudly Nigerian, plus or minus. Change must begin from me and I shall right my wrong.

I just got 2 know about this site today n am so glad 2 know there are nigerians who still believe in Ngeria. See, the Nigeria of our dreams is not far away if only the average Nigeian will wake up to know that there is nothing inferior about his name, colour, tribe or country. The lkes of America or even India never relied on outsidepowers to build their country. We must do the same; believe in ourselves, and our potentials. what the man in Washington can do, a man in Port Harcourt can do it even better. let’s encourage the likes of Philip Emeagwali and Chinua Achebe to come home and help build a New Nigeria. Meanwhile, I’ll start doing what I can to make Nigeria great again.

It wil be more than great if our leaders and the ones who claim to represent us can me made to really represent us and not embezzle money in our names.. I think it is time we know what the colour of the national cake is and what it tastes like.

Before i forget, I almost got sore stomach laughing today when i saw able bodied wives and mothers that are not lawma staffs sweeping the mainroad in my arrear today, can anybody guess why they are sweeping the pot-hole filled road///????? Because Fashola is coming to inspect some part of the area, so they are trying to make everywhere look good. I laughed when i saw what they were doing not bcos it was funny, but if i had to cry, it would have been blood coming out of my eyes.

If you are hurriedly sweeping the roads that as been laid bare and dirty for months because fashola is coming, then what his he coming to see, that we are enjoying a clean environment. if you we are busy filling up the pot-holes and clearing the gutters when fashola is coming, aint we the one telling him that the area is ok and that we don’t need his presence. if the roads are good, and clean, are we not telling him every thing is ok meanwhile its the irony of the situation we are trying to paint.

I get weak in limbs sometimes when i see the kinda things this people do, especially the woman who are suppose to be our mothers, they are the one that are making these changes near impossible, they collect #500 and throw away #5m, they encourage our local politicians to continue in crime once they can get there own #1000 everytime to tell us more lies and syphoon public funds, They don’t get to think that Bisi Yussuf is only using them to cover up for the funds he was suppose to use in maintaining the road, and he’s only giving them the one one thousand naira as there cut from the loot and embezzling activities he been doing all the time he was suppose to make the road get better and the environ cleaner, they seem to forget that, there place is not under the hot sun in the market, rather that they are suppose display there wares in lock-up shops in this markets, but this is impossible cos Bisi Yussuf and Shakiru had already spent the money meant for renovating and rehabilitating Ipaja market on his personal project in Gemade Estate and Bada and he already gave them #1000 from the fund.

They can’t out to complain becos they think they can’t change a thing or because they think thats the way it’s suppose to be or probably they found out that they got #1000 from the #10m meant for the project…and they can’t complain no more, rather they grumble within and continue to live a hardnock life.

and so the revolution picks up….
Its nice to know that so many people still believe in a “new Nigeria” but we have to be careful in all that we say, do or plan to do.we have to differrentiate this “movement” from others which claim to wish for the emancipation of nigerians (or a section of) only to carryout acts which are completely and totally unforgivable.let us not be carried away by our passions for a better country only to have our lofty ideals hijacked or derailed the way of others, past and present. The Fredrick Fasheuns(refuse to consider Gani Adams!),Nzeogwus,Gbenga Ademoyegas and Ben Gbulie of this world will not forgive us if we make the same mistakes as they did.Passion is natural in youth, but we must add restraint and exercise maturity.
We must know what we wish to achieve(specifically) and how.
There is so much to be said and so little time.see you all in Igando.

I was listening to Zig Ziglar’s message on GOALS and something struck me sharply.
Countries that have “made it” and are regarded as “1st world countries” or “world leaders” have at one time or the other had CLEARLY-DEFINED GOALS.
Or how can you explain how a country like China in the 80’s became World Leaders in Steel Manufacture and later world leaders in Textile Export (also in the 1980’s).

Please have a quick read of the following article: http://www.chinapost.com.tw/china/2007/09/25/123977/China-could.htm

A statement that stood out for me was: “But the industry is still booming. Most analysts think Beijing’s target of 30 gigawatts (GW) of installed capacity by 2020 is too modest, as China is already nearing its 2010 goal”

The above got me thinking in the following line…………What is Our Goal as a Nation??
What visible Goals have our leaders set that the populace can identify with??

I believe we need to begin to set CLEAR Goals as individuals, groups, and definitely as a Nation!

See you all at the TOP!!!

Deolu, it is not surprising to me that you can recognise this differences, it boils down to the fact that you have Nigeria right in your heart.

Many Nigerian leaders have travelled more than you have ever done but i believe it is not as if they lack the vision or understanding but the problem is related to greediness.

However the most important thing i see is that the Nigerian youth are getting more disillusioned by the day thereby channelling their intellect wrongly(yahoo yahoo).

Talking about natural resources we have so many of them but i really do not actually believe in that. What i strongly believe is that the best natural resource any country can have is it’s youth.

Unfortunately our is been left without integrity and yahoo yahoo is the only source of pride.

Just like you i am really thinking and working towards something i will call a revolutionary education that will be channelled towards the youth 15year old and below.

They seem not to be totally disillusioned and we are looking at a vision of the next 20yrs when they will be ripe to start been decision makers.

This is what i will call success rather than other things that are generally known as success. We hope to bring this opportunity back home after been in diaspora for this long.

    May God help us all.

Can we start pulling articles and topics together for the magazine? I’ve currently started work on something I’m certain will push us into the New Nigeria reality. Let’s just push our thoughts into action, and as we gain credibility to be able to do the same, nothing becomes impossible.

We need TRUE LEADERS in Nigeria!!!!!!!!!
    ==============================

I would like to say that many of us in this forum are True Leaders. We may not be in a position where our Leadership abilities have been tested before, but I would like to think we’re all leaders in the making.

A True Leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the quality of his actions and the integrity of his intent.

I would like to believe I’m correct by saying Adeolu has displayed the qualities of a True Leader. There are certain values he exhibits and certain qualities he displays that has clearly drawn us all to his website, and I feel each member of this forum also has that same ingredient in him or her.
Have you ever heard of the term “Like Minds Attact”???
So far, the friendships I’ve developed on this forum has been GREAT to say the least and I see in each of my new friends an unique character: simplicity and intent of purpose.
One exemplary person I’ve developed a relationship with is Josh. I would like to believe he’s a True Leader.

If each and everyone of us can lead exemplary lives day-to-day, we will be closer to achieving the Nigeria of our Dreams!

    Have A Wonderful Weekend!!

inspiring barrage of thoughts and strengths. these are a typed expanded transcripts of recent thoughts and proactive solutions . I think its high time we brought into reality those things we envision Nigeria to be. Especially as another “birthday celebration” approaches.
I believe we need to get those things together, strapped up with a deadline to be able to facilitate things.

sir, when we start to campare Naija with other countries, one gets more saddened with why things arent working.

i read that malaysia came to our land in 1960 to get oil palm and today, they are the highest producers of oilpalm in the world. the question is; what happened to the country where they took it from?

Nigerians are determind, passionate, risk takers, intelligent, smart and patient people and these are few of the keys that make for succss in any endeavour in life.

i belief if it is happening in southafrica or dubai or anywhere else in the world, even more more can happen in this beloved country of ours if we want it bad enough.

on leadership: A good leader is one who has a great dream of a greater future for his people and have clear vision of the destination.
visionary leadership is the greatest virtue any Nigerian leader must posses if Nigeria must get to her promised land.
on synergy: Nigerians need to understand that if we can apply the way we network to our national goals and policies, we shall be great.

it is often said that insaniy is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different result. very true. it grieves me that many youth like myself have very great dreams for our country and are willing to even die for the cause but what keeps repeating itself is poor leadership at the highest echelon in the land.

sir, do you know that journalists are told not to snp the president from a close range? why? because the pictures they snap will reveal to the whole country how sick and pail looking thepresident is. and so anyone who violates the order will be taken to jail. how pathetic!it is so sad that we know this guy is really sick but people will rather die than have him leave office.iif 2025 will be visisble is it not supposed to start now?
