“Do the difficult things while they are easy and do the great things while they are small. A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.” Lao Tzu

Lesson 1: Start small to achieve great things

This quote encourages us to start by taking small steps to accomplish great things. This is a reminder that every big accomplishment begins with small, consistent actions. For example, if you want to write a book, start by writing a paragraph a day, and over time, you will have a full manuscript.

Lesson 2: Don’t wait to do the difficult things

Procrastination can never be solved tomorrow; it has to be today! It’s easy to procrastinate or avoid doing difficult tasks, but Lao Tzu reminds us to tackle these challenges while they are still manageable. For example, if you have a difficult conversation with a colleague, don’t put it off until the issue has escalated. Address it while it’s still a minor problem, and it will be much easier to resolve.

Lesson 3: Take advantage of opportunities when they arise

The more opportunities you take, the more opportunities you will have. Opportunities beget opportunities. Sometimes opportunities come and go quickly, so Lao Tzu advises us to seize them while we can. For example, if a friend invites you to join them for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, don’t hesitate to take advantage of the opportunity.

Lesson 4: Be patient and persistent

A journey of a thousand miles takes time and effort, and this quote reminds us to be patient and persistent in our efforts. For example, if you’re working on a long-term project, it’s important to stay motivated and committed to the end goal.

Once upon a time.

There was once a man who wanted to climb Mount Everest but didn’t know where to start. He spent months researching, reading books, and watching documentaries about the mountain. He even spent hours on the internet looking for the best gear and equipment to use. But he never took the first step towards his goal.

One day, he met an experienced climber who asked him why he hadn’t started his journey yet. The man explained that he was still preparing and gathering information. The climber laughed and said, “You can’t climb a mountain by reading about it! You must actually start climbing!”

The man realised the truth in the climber’s words and decided to act. He took a small step by signing up for a mountaineering course and gradually worked his way up to summiting smaller peaks. Eventually, he was able to conquer Mount Everest, but he never forgot the lesson he learned about the importance of taking that first step.

What are you putting off doing? What is that small step that you can begin today? Start today, it’s really that simple.
