We don’t understand Elijah! We are calling out fire where God has not instructed fire! We pre-empt God, regularly tempt him! We fail the temptations that Jesus passed, and we claim to follow him!
Listen to Elijah before you bring down fire tomorrow!
“When it was time for the sacrifice to be offered, Elijah the prophet came up and prayed, “O God, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, make it known right now that you are God in Israel, that I am your servant, and that I’m doing what I’m doing under your orders. Answer me, God; O answer me and reveal to this people that you are God, the true God, and that you are giving these people another chance at repentance.” – I Sam 18:36-37
Do you know it’s an offense against God to do what he didn’t instruct? Do you know that Cain offered worship that didn’t please God? The Babel folks built because it seemed a good idea to them, not because God instructed for them to build? Do you know that Nadab and Abihu were killed for offering what God did not authorize? The Bible calls it strange fire – Strange because God did not authorize it! Do you think God just takes anything? Do you know how much of Church growth strategy is strange to God? Do you see God in these lights? Or do you have a description of God that is one sided and incomplete?
I have heard people quote – “Concerning the works of my hands, command ye me!”, Man has put an exclamation mark where God put a question mark.
God of Elijah will send down fire if He’s the one that sent Elijah! If Elijah sent himself, then Elijah must himself create the fires. Sadly, today, Elijah is creating the fires himself, because the Elijah wannabe’s are not taking instruction from God, just commanding Him.
