Give yourself NO other Choice!

It sounds really strange, that after I posted about your having a choice, I’m back again just the second day to give yourself no other choice. Even I am amused at the paradoxical nature of both statements. I think you can find the clue in the last line of the last post though. Yes, you have a choice, but success demands that you quit yourself of all other options but one most of the times. When a goat is chased to the wall, it bites. When you are flat on your back and are are your lowest point, usually, the only other direction to go is up! I don’t know if you have been there, but there are some heights you will never experience until you have taken some major plunges.

Most people live in their comfort zones and never really get to tap into their real potentials. I know people whose brains only started functioning well when it became a necessity. You have stuff you are made up of that will only come to light when you give yourself no other choice! The fragrance and quality of the teabag is only known in hot water, raw yam is food only for goats. Gold is purified by fire!

I had always wondered what one of my mentors meant when he always told me he had no choice but to succeed in his business. He always said it, but I never really understood it, perhaps, the student in me was not ready! When I eventually told him an experience I went through, and how I had come to discover that you need to come to a point of no choice to succeed, he smiled! He then went on to explain to me, that he had not wanted to rush me. I had told him about mouth watering job offers and he had counselled me in line with my requests, silently knowing that I still engaged the mindset of having options. When I told him I wasn’t willing to look at any other option, he smiled, he then told me that the student in me was finally ready, and I was ready for success.

So, over to you. Are you enjoying what you are doing? Are you happy with yourself today? Are you taking daily steps that when put together will take you into the life of your dreams? Do you really desire to succeed? If you do, give yourself no options. Give yourself no other choice. Move forward and shut the backdoor. Put your back against the ropes…and feel it! Move your life to a sphere where you are involved in the activities that will make you live the life of your dreams. Excellence is not an act, it’s a habit!

There are two stories that have to do with Julius Caesar that typify the attitude I’m advocating here. Julius Caesar and his Roman soldiers were said to have burnt their ships and bridges in invading a particular country. This for them was a gesture to ensure that all the hearts and minds of all the soldiers were in one place, conquer or perish! The human potential has always been known to rise to the occassion during challenges like this. Burn your bridges. Give yourself no options. Shut your back door, sorry-slam it! (at least in your mind). The other story was what was converted into the English saying “Crossed the rubicon” – This means to irrevocably commit to a course of action, make a fateful of final decision. This he did when he crossed the Rubicon River when the senate had put a line in the sand that crossing that river would be seen as an act of war.

Are you serious about achieving your dreams? Are you serious about success? When the seed enters the ground and dies, it’s at a point of no return. Till then, its lip service!

This is another great piece. Giving yourself no other choice demands a great sense of discipline.

I believe you pour out all of yourself more when you have no other choice.

People who have many choices in life never truely live out their full potentials in any particular area be it in relationships or career.

Many thanks Deolu for these insights…..

Hm…options make one believes that he has alternatives. I would say that it is the enemy of success. I have heard people tell me that it is always better to have option B to anything you are doing but I have since found out that as long as you continue to operate your life based on options, then you are not ready to pursue your plan.

It is all about decision and the commitment to ensure that you succeed alone. It is either you succeed or succced. I remember the story of an army general who was involved in a war on an island. He thought he was well-equipped for the war but he soon discovered that the opponents seemd to be well-prepared than them. He then instructed his army that there is no going back. He ordered that the ship that took them to the island be burnt. This left them with no means of escape. So, everybody had to take his destiny into his hand. It was a case of WIN & Live or Loose & Die. Eventually, his army won. Why? They knew they couldn’t just afford to loose.

I believe that if everybody can approach his life with this attitude, then the world would be a great place for all to stay. Like you said, let’s give ourselves only one OPTION…

Must commend you on the your well thought article.

I have visited the website previously but have decided to post a comment today. You have given me no other choice.

I have read a few other articles and have to say following a period of brokeness in my life I can now say that I make everyday count. I do this by ensuring I make choices that would make make my day count. As you mentioned in one of your articles I see it as my seed planting time. These choices also shape my future and make my tomorrow and the future brighter.

These choices enable me to achieve my god given purpose.

I agree with you it has become a habit or I would say a lifestyle for me and I encourage my friends and family to do the same.

This is surely not the last you have heard from me.

True words my brother… can’t help the fact that it sounds like something Pete Edochie would say though, especially the bit about raw yam and goats … :))

You sure do know how do keep a brother straight and put him on the spot too. We’ve got quite a bit to jaw jaw about.

@Alicia… Welcome and thanks from breaking the silence ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s always inspiring reading from people who are making positive attempts to make every day count for the future…well done.

@stephen, bayuze and niyi…thanks for the compliments, I really long for a time when many will be inspired to stop turning round in endless circles and give themselves no options.

@Emmanuel… Word! When you have no escape, success becomes inevitable.

Its amazing how quickly a tame cat reverts to its wild nature once its left to fend for itself. With the concept of an easy meal gone, it quickly learns to once again rely on its God-given feline strengths.

I guess we all need, at some point in our lives, to be pushed around, booed, annoyed, mocked,or even kicked at by Life or people before we leave our comfort zones and do what we know we have to do.

But we dont have to be so reactive. We can make a conscious choice to take that scary, but neccessary, step before we are forced to do so.

But remember its those folks who look back, after making a decision to advance, that are the ones who turn into pillars of salt!

Thought provoking, it’s not a piece you just celeberate and think all is done, it takes more than sheer willingness to Cross the Rubicon.
If you would go against the order of the Senate, I’d like to ask you if you have got GUTS.

Luminus…. see Osadebe and tell me who sounds more like Pete Edocie ๐Ÿ™‚ Well said Osadebe, we usually need to get to that point in our lives…when the backward option is fully exhausted.

    And Kamal…it requires GUTS oh…however small ๐Ÿ™‚

Word! Big ups to Osadebe waxing extremely philosophical, I like the analogy of the tame cat and yeah! that does come across somewhat Pete Edochie-ish…lol

Going against the senate is no child’s play. Atari ajanaku, kii se eru omode. No guts, no glory.

I guess there’s this added impetus when you know that fail or succeed, it’s all up to you, everything is in your hands.
