It is difficult to explain something to someone if you can’t find a basis that you both agree about as the leverage point to share new knowledge. I believe I have the gift of making things plain to people, but even at that, there are people that you’ll struggle to explain some things to. You first need to pass them through an experience that opens their eyes, before you can help them see.
Have you ever tried describing the workings of a mobile phone to someone who has never seen one? Can you imagine having a conversation with someone who was alive in the 1890’s about the possibility of communicating to someone else as far away as America from Nigeria over a small black box with nothing in-between them? It will be futile won’t it? That was earlier than the age where someone was hospitalised for even muting the idea of the possibility of mobile phones.
A blind man gets small use of a lantern – If you are blind, the lantern will not help. All the illumination in the world will not help a man see spiritual things unless the Holy Spirit opens his eyes. There is no use increasing the light when the eyes are blind. Don’t try harder at increasing the light, try harder at praying for the veil to be removed, and for the eyes to see.
There are many people out there, whose lives would radically transform with light only if their eyes are opened. The best we can do is shine the light, it’s only God that can remove blindness. Even the blind can’t help themselves, for there is a blindness that makes the blind not even know that seeing exists. Shine your light, but pray that God opens people’s eyes.
May the eyes of your understanding be opened… may the glorious light of the gospel shine on you.
