On exactly the 23rd of September, 2006, My little Angel, Ireoluwa Akinyemi, clocked 2yrs of age. I have been thinking I need to do a blog on her behalf, but I have been very lazy about it. I have finally braved up to it, I know it might mean nothing to her today, but I’m sure it will 15yrs from now, when she has that conversation with her friends in university about who was the first to make appearances on the world wide web. Here is making sure that “Ire” as she is popularly called wins that arguement 🙂
Ire has been a wonderful and stressless girl, she is not the typical crying baby, she cries only when it’s absolutely necessary. When she thinks she can handle the issue herself, she’ll treaten anybody with “I’ll beat you!”. She says it with so much confidence that you’ll wonder. Her teachers once reported that you are not likely to have the last word with Ire. Whatever you say to her, she’s very likely going to get her word back in before it gets cold 🙂
She also a very decided young girl. I can’t imagine that at my present age, I still find it difficult to say “No”, not Ire. She learnt very quickly the words, No, I don’t want, Yes and I want, quicker than every other word. She knows what she wants, that’s very clear, and importantly, she has a clear idea what she doesn’t want. I remember hearing a prof say on sunday that when he went for his masters in the states, he remembered their being introduced to different workshops for different countries. He said that of the US was airconditioned, the Europeans had a fully covered workshop with fans, the asians had a shed, but that of Nigerians was under the open air. He mentioned that they complained to the officials why they were being treated like animals. The officials pleaded with them and quickly informed them, that there was no preferencial treatment, they had provided what every nation requested for. Nigeria however had made no request, because in his words, we did not know what we wanted. Thank God Ire knows what she wants.
Ire has also been in school for almost a year now (feels like child abuse 🙂 Her teachers have made sure she learnt Ah for Apple. Ah..yes, not A. Children of nowadays are being thought a different curriculum, never mind what it’s called, but it’s the same curriculum that was used for Bill Gates and the Google boys, I can’t wait for her to become a genius, and drop out of her PhD class 🙂 If you want Ire not to disturb you, just give her a biro and newspaper, she’ll add her own veiws to the news. She seems to believe that all politicians should have straight lines on their faces, I wonder how she knew they might not all be too straight. She writes with her left hand and you can go out and buy anything if she is writing, you are guaranteed 5mins of free time. Come to think of it, she is using a biro already, in my own days what I saw at her age was slate and chalk :), Ire can already recognize a computer enough to know how to move the mouse, I’m scared!
Dancing? Wow, that’s one other thing she is great at. Shy? Not when the music is playing. And from the look of these pictures she’s learning to pose for pictures as well. She is also learning to be independent, can you imagine she started collecting her plate and deciding to eat her food by herself the moment she got her personal table and chair? (age 1+). We also took her for some check up to get an idea of her adult height. The Doctor (Grandpa as well) says she’ll grow up to be 5ft 8in. The fomular is height at 2 times 2. (I need a thank you for giving you that free) Well, she can dance all she wants for now :)…I’m saving up for a dobberman and a magnum 🙂 If I hear penren…(Heckler).
Well, I’m certain I have made history. I love my little girl, and want her to look back over the years and laugh at herself, her dad, and indeed her mum…and who knows have her younger ones laugh too. Of what use is this life if we can’t laugh from time to time? For all you fun lovers and daddy and mummy wannabe’s. Give your children a good advantage, get them enlightened, then guide them. And in case any company needs a young girl for commercials – The asking price is $5,000. I’ll love her to beat my record by providing her school fees from primary 1 :).
