It may not be apparent to the untrained eyes, but my eyes have seen the birth of a New Day for Nigeria! The future we once ruminated over as young chaps, is becoming a reality right here and now in our mid ages. The Nigeria of our dreams, where the viral disease called corruption finally has an identified cure and a camouflage for protecting those yet uninfected. The Nigeria where things work, where our passport is dignified and where as citizens we can be proud, is just across the mountain. The cataclysm of events that will lead us on the long journey to our promised land has begun already, and I’m proud and excited to be a Nigerian at this time.
What exactly have I seen with my eyes? In the book of Genesis chapter 11, there is a divine template. God rises up to come down to the earth and observes that man is constructing a city and a tower, a system of governance and icons of the same. God looks at the plan of man and his process of execution, and utters the statement that acknowledges the highest powers deposited in man – ““Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them”. God announces the power of the human being – limitless so far they have one language and one purpose. In the same chapter however, God establishes the template for divine intervention to stop the arm of flesh and the limitlessness of man! From then till now, every manifestation of God’s intervention have taken similar patterns, these words deserve to be preserved forever – “Come, let Us go down and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.” Whenever God’s had would be seen in any activity of man that does not win His alignment, the first thing that shows up, is a confusion of language!
In Nigeria today, the tower of Babel had been built without interruption for 14 uninterrupted years! That city and tower is very symbolic of what the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had become! It not only stood strong and tall, it also boasted of it’s ability to rule and run Nigeria for a century. Today, PDP is falling apart, in the same very template that shows the manifestation of the hand of God – Confusion in their language and a change in their purpose. If you truly understand the level of breakthrough this is, you will be dancing and rejoicing on behalf of Nigeria. I don’t need to see the end before I begin to rejoice, I can see God’s hand at work on Nigeria, and I am certain that the end of this divinely scripted drama will be good!
With PDP divided and APC formed, I foresee further forgings and further divisions. I foresee a nation where the power block would return to the people, where our leaders will be held accountable by the people and not by power blocks, where each region and each state will be driven to to performance, because it is the only claim they have to existence and normalcy after their tenures. The wind of change is blowing over Nigeria, and Nigeria will be restructured along the line of it’s federating units – states!
As God’s divine hand begins to work out confusion in the political scene of Nigeria, judgement will kick off from within God’s house! It is no longer hidden, that the Church of God in Nigeria is a caricature of God’s church. It has been infiltrated by the spirit of religion, the type that has a form of godliness, but is powerless to change society. The Church of God in Nigeria has been hijacked by shepherds who do not care for the sheep, we have heaped unto ourselves ministers who have the capacity to say what we want to hear. Because the words and the character of our leaders are not in sync, we have a spirituality that does not have the capacity to bring change to any facet of our lives. We have forsaken the worship of God for the worship of mammon. Our most respected representatives of God accept our offerings of N1billion without questions. We have gone astray! As God begins to set the Nation straight, expect strange things to begin to happen as God brings order back into his Church.
If you read 1 Samuel, you will realise the sins of the son’s of Eli and God’s judgment. Here is what to expect!
1 Sam 2:12-17
The first sin of the Children of Eli was greed, manifested as financial impropriety. Their Greed knew no boundaries. They could no longer distinguish between what was for God, and what was for themselves. The whole till – Tithes, Offering, Special offerings e.t.c. were miss appropriated without accountability.
Does this sound typical of our time? Have we grown so familiar and accustomed to servants of God living an unchecked and unaccountable lifestyle? Are we in the midst of a generation where we kind of agree that the Church belongs to the pastor and he’s free to do with it as he pleases? Do we ask what Jobs do our pastors do, that gives them access to such flamboyance? Do we not reason that even Jesus who could get gold coins from the mouth of fish when he wanted to, did not show himself? Does it not bother us, that projects for which offerings were raised now belong to men of God? Are we so dumb or dazed as sheep, that we cannot see? Well, who is blind like God’s servant. It is not strange however, while men did not think it was time to begin to look for a replacement for the sons of Eli, God started working on Samuel! The world may not judge financial impropriety, God does! In fact, Jesus declared, if you cannot be trusted with money, who will commit to your hands true riches! My answer? The Devil!
By the time God’s prophecy was going to be read against the children of Eli, it did not stop at the children, it was to the entire household of Eli! By the time God’s judgement would be read, the problem had grown beyond financial scandals to sex scandals! Let’s read 1 Sam 2:22-25 “By this time Eli was very old. He kept getting reports on how his sons were ripping off the people and sleeping with the women who helped out at the sanctuary. Eli took them to task: “What’s going on here? Why are you doing these things? I hear story after story of your corrupt and evil carrying on. Oh, my sons, this is not right! These are terrible reports I’m getting, stories spreading right and left among God’s people! If you sin against another person, there’s help—God’s help. But if you sin against God, who is around to help?”
25-26 But they were far gone in disobedience and refused to listen to a thing their father said. So God, who was fed up with them, decreed their death. But the boy Samuel was very much alive, growing up, blessed by God and popular with the people”
Does this sound familiar? Read it to Chapter 3! God’s judgment will take out all those who remain in sin, and remain stiff necked after hearing God’s command! Expect the unrepentant Son’s of Eli to die, and expect the structures that hold’s Eli’s head to be broken! Every stream of Eli, who handles God’s resources as loot, and who stoop to feed on gullible women and all who partake of their whoredom and idolatry will receive God’s judgement. To escape Judgement, repentance must be authentic!
What’s the connection between all these you may ask? It’s simple. Read 2 Chronicles 7: 13-14 for a template for National Transformation.
“13 When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, 14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
What this simply means is, when God wants to restore a nation, as His own agenda is getting fulfilled in the midst of their political and economic terrains, his role for the Church is simple.
1. The Church, called by God’s name, must humble themselves. This humility is manifested in realising that the world is not the problem, we are a part of the problem.
2. The Church at this time needs to pray and seek God’s face, not only pray, but seek God’s face. God will not be approached on our terms (study Cain and study Babel) God will be reached on His terms. The assurance that HE hears us, is that we pray in line with His Will.
3. We must turn from our wicked ways! Financial impropriety, Sexual Promiscuity, Idolatry, lies, e.t.c. If we don’t turn, nothing changes. If Change must happen, then those who hold us back by not turning will bear God’s fiery Judgement.
