“So, my very dear friends, when you see people reducing God to something they can use or control, get out of their company as fast as you can” – 1 Cor 10:14 (MSG)
This sounds like a simple instruction, are you obeying it?
How does God become reduced into something we can use or control? It’s called idolatry. It’s the use of God for what we can get out of Him, the use of religion for what we can get, the use of any means – people, religion, things as satisfiers or void fillers where only God should fill. It’s God as a means to an end – Accept Jesus and you will be rich! Accept Jesus and you will have children! Accept Jesus and you will have a good marriage! Eph 5:5 MSG captures it quite nicely.
“You can be sure that using people or religion or things just for what you can get out of them—the usual variations on idolatry—will get you nowhere, and certainly nowhere near the kingdom of Christ, the kingdom of God.”
Are you obeying these? – Get out of the company as fast as you can? Get out to where is not clear, but get out is clear. When a lion is chasing you, you are not thinking about where to go to next, you go first! You keep going until you are safe! You can run somewhere else and still see the lion, keep running! The true church may be on the run!
“Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not practice what I tell you? – Luke 6:46 (AMP)
It’s clear isn’t it? That it’s possible to confess Jesus as Lord, even more than once, and not do what he instructs. Are you doing what he instructs? I plead with you, do what he instructs! The difference between those who do and those who don’t, does not show until the storms come! One day, in this side of eternity and at the close of this season of life, the storm will come!
