Two phrases caught my attention this morning. The phrase “slow down to catch up with God” and the statement “be still and know that I am God”. The two phrases are related in that they both encourage a state of stillness and reflection as a means of deepening our spiritual connection with God.
In today’s fast-paced world, it can be easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life, to constantly be busy, and to feel like there is no time to stop and reflect. However, when we are always rushing around, we can miss out on the deeper spiritual truths and experiences that are available to us.
The idea of “slowing down” is not just about taking a break or getting some rest but about intentionally creating space for God to speak to us. This might involve setting aside time for prayer, meditation, or simply being still and silent before God.
The phrase “be still and know that I am God” comes from Psalm 46:10 and is often used as a reminder to quiet our minds and hearts in order to experience God’s presence. When we stop and let go of the distractions of the world, we can become more aware of God’s voice and leadership in our lives.
Slowing down and being still does not mean that we stop moving forward in our faith journey. Rather, it is a way of making sure that we are moving in the right direction and that our actions and decisions are guided by God’s wisdom and purpose.
In summary, these two phrases emphasize the importance of intentional stillness and reflection as a means of deepening our spiritual connection with God and aligning our lives with His purposes. Many times, the way to get there fastest is by going slow.
