“If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” – Isaac Newton
In the wide variety of relationships that weave through our lives, there are few we get to handpick. While family is bestowed upon us by fate, we have the unique privilege of selecting our friends, mentors, and proteges. These chosen relationships, when intentionally cultivated, become vessels (ships) propelling us from where we stand to where we aspire to be. If life was compared to an orchestra, intentional relationships act as the crescendo, accelerating our journey.
I am a living proof of the transformative power of mentorship. Instead of waiting for mentors to discover me, I actively seek them out. Questions become my compass, and their homes, my classrooms. There have been nights spent in their houses, absorbing wisdom until clarity emerged.
A mentorship is a symbiotic relationship; it’s not about finding someone to elevate your life; it’s about seeking a mentor who doesn’t mind getting a little ‘stained’ by yours. Genuine mentors listen and share, weaving stories that often find a connecting thread. While they care, the responsibility lies with us to sift through their words, discovering the pearls to apply in our own lives.
Mentorship has been my shield against unnecessary losses, my balm for pain, and the fuel for confronting crises with unwavering confidence. The best mentors are those who submit to a higher purpose, doing what they do for a divine cause rather than personal gain.
As much as I’ve been a beneficiary of mentorship, I’ve joyfully paid it forward to those I mentor and disciple. True mentorship is an investment; there’s only so much one can do in a year. This scarcity of time ensures we select mentees who are genuinely worth the effort—individuals whose lives will be a testament to the time and energy invested.
Mentorship is not just powerful; it’s indispensable. Don’t navigate this year without the guiding light of a mentor. Seek one out, and let the journey of shared wisdom illuminate your path. Remember, the beauty of mentorship lies not just in the wisdom received but in the legacy of wisdom shared.
If you think I could be your mentor, and you are really serious, send me a DM, or connect with me.
