Launching a new segment today! The title of this new segment is emotional recharge. In my little walk in the world of blogging and human resources managment, I have come to discover that human beings have a hierarchy of needs. These hierarchy of needs are responsible for what motivates people. Maslow was able to come up with great ideas about the hierachy of these needs and how they can be used to motivate people. Well, this is not an attempt to bamboozle you with motivational theory. It is just to tell you a bit about emotional recharge.
Abraham Maslow’s theory simply put implies that human beings needs follow a particular order. Man/Woman, will also not worry too much about the next priority until the present priority is satisfied. This theory states that man’s needs are in the following order:
1. Biological and Physiological needs – air, food, drink, shelter, warmth, sex, sleep, etc.
2. Safety needs – protection from elements, security, order, law, limits, stability, etc.
3. Belongingness and Love needs – work group, family, affection, relationships, etc.
4. Esteem needs – self-esteem, achievement, mastery, independence, status, dominance, prestige, managerial responsibility, etc.
5. Cognitive needs – knowledge, meaning, etc.
6. Aesthetic needs – appreciation and search for beauty, balance, form, etc.
7. Self-Actualization needs – realising personal potential, self-fulfillment, seeking personal growth and peak experiences.
8. Transcendence needs – helping others to achieve self actualization.
This means that one will first worry about survival and sustainance before safety and security. One will worry about love and belonginess before self esteem, achievement or development. It also shows that you’ll need to value knowledge and aesthetics before self actualization or even transcendence to helping others. Think about it – where are you on maslow’s hierarchy, and what motivates you today? Usually our motivation is the ladder wrung just ahead of us.
Having said all these, I discovered, that the entire suite of www.deoluakinyemi.com presently addresses a few of these needs, and it might be a good idea to step up a bit. How? -Easy.
The Job Blog, Job placement and jobalert, which provides just in time information about job opportunities is meant to take care of the first and second layer. If you have a good job, you can enjoy good food, basic shelter and warmth and sleep in peace. It also affords you some basic security and stability.
The Daily Motivation and Development pages, caters for layer 4 and 5. It discusses issues that help with self esteem and mastery, it supports people to gain independence, status and achieve. Hopefully in the days ahead, there will be a lot of focus on extending it to 6, 7 and 8.
If you noticed however, layer 3 is missing! If layer 3 is missing then the other layers after it might be compromised. Someone who does not belong, feel in love, or enjoy affection can not be productive or have a good self esteem. This is the reason behind this new segment –Emotional Recharge. I believe that if we can collaborate together to take care of this, then many things are possible. Wanna be a writer? As of now, we have three volounteer authors.
Let’s not kid ourselves, people are going through lots of things, most of them are not cerebral, they are plain emotional. You can access this pages by clicking on Romance under interesting pages, or simply typing, www.deoluakinyemi.com/emotional-recharge into your explorer or firefox. Why don’t you top up now 🙂 and let me know what you think.
