Are you experiencing any of these symptoms?
• A compulsion to prove oneself
• Working harder
• Neglecting one’s own needs
• Displacement of conflicts (the person does not realize the root cause of the distress)
• Revision of values (friends or hobbies are completely dismissed)
• Denial of emerging problems (cynicism and aggression become apparent)
• Withdrawal (reducing social contacts to a minimum, becoming walled off; alcohol or other substance abuse may occur)
• Behavioral changes become obvious to others
• Depersonalization (life becomes a series of mechanical functions)
• Inner emptiness
• Depression
If you are experiencing any of these as symptoms, then you are approaching burnout. You need to quickly retrace your steps. You are in this business because you want to own your life, and enjoy your life, don’t let anything stress you out. Don’t allow anything to wear you out emotionally. Change your game!
Here are a few tips on what you can do.
1. Review your goals.
Why are you in this business? What do you want to achieve in the next 5yrs? Many people assume that this business is a get-rich-quick scheme, it’s not. Real results are a result of consistency. Excellence is a function of habits. You need to form the right habits and keep your goals in view. Are you in this business to make a difference, meet people, enjoy time freedom, make money or help people succeed? Review your goals and true intentions, and ask yourself if you can make it happen. If your goals are not SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bound), you are bound to quit, it’s only a matter of when.
2. Review your motivation.
Are you motivated extrinsically or intrinsically? The real reason most people quit, is because most people are motivated extrinsically than intrinsically. If your motivation is purely external, you won’t last. If it is internal however, you will last. To make yourself quit proof, you need to focus on your intrinsic motivation. Sure you are wondering which is intrinsic and which is extrinsic. These are the things to watch out for.
Extrinsic motivation is when you are motivated by external things, like money, recognition and rewards. This is how we motivate in our home-based networking businesses. “What’s your check?” “What’s your level?” “Did you walk across the stage?” “Are you part of the ‘in’ crowd?” “What kind of pin are you wearing?”, etc… These work only for a while, and then no more. As soon as the external factors become inconsistent, quitting will follow in time.
Intrinsic motivation is when you are motivated by inner things like purpose, passion and mission. People who are motivated intrinsically do not quit very easily. They stick. Think about it. Religions may be the biggest “networks” in the world. They don’t pay you a dime (little to no extrinsic motivators). But the intrinsic motivation, the sense of purpose, is why so many people stay the course. This is the stuff top networkers are made up of? You need to ask yourself, what are you doing to keep yourself from quitting. What is your Mission? Do you have a Mission Statement that is alive in your heart or is it dead on paper, or do you not have at all?
3. Strike a Balance!
One of the best things with Avenues to Wealth (H&C) is the flexibility it gives. I can easily recall myself telling people it’s an entrepreneurial network. This means the reason you are in, is because you are entrepreneurial. The company assumes you have your own business that you can advertise on the portal – that you are a win-win personality. That you add value to yourself and business, add value to the business, and add value to the world around you. People are more likely to quit who are not balanced. This business has multiple dimensions of business in the business. Do you have a business in the business? Are you having multiple streams of income? Are you taking care of your family, fulfilling your life mission and purpose while building your team? Do you have convergence, or are you scattered? Strike a balance, let your spirit, soul and body benefit from your involvement. Don’t overdo, or you may burnout quickly. The calm blue fire fries the plantain deeper than the yellow fiery flames!
