The Problem

Fresh Graduates
The Number of graduates churned out of our higher institutions per annum is mind boggling. Even though I support the quest for education for all, we have enough graduates in Nigeria to hire 2-3 people per currently available job. This anormally makes it difficult for the average graduate to get good jobs, out straight from school with no experience, he gets to contest with graduates that settled for meagre paying jobs last year in the hope they’ll have developed experience for this year’s opportunities. The average fresh graduate is not spared from the sun or rain, getting a job, is a job itself.

Professionals
For the average professional with less than 5yrs work experience, he/she probably took the job because it was better than having none at all. Like they say, “small is not so good, but it’s better than at all at all.” He/She is frurstrated and tired of the job, but jobsearch requires more time that his work will allow.

Current Scenarios

Fresh Graduates
70% of this force are unemployable. From basic communication skills to the use basic computer software, to basic soft skills and work ethics, to more complex issues, these set of people are largely unfit for the workplace. Some of them did well in the school curriculum, but that curriculum wasn’t preparing them for the working place, it prepared them for masters. They find that things are not going to be so easy from NYSC, some serve where they can learn, the others where they remain oblivious of the shocking reality that lies ahead. On phonecalls, sms, email, transportation, and CV printing, the average serious jobsearcher spends about N4,000 per week (transport at N500 per day, CV printing and other docs at N500, phone credit and browsing credit at N200/day). Getting to the company, he needs to beat his way through – the gateman, security, reception, to get in to drop his CV. After he lands the test and interview, his spending become a little more focused, but then he might still not get the job, as he is not skilled and might bungle the interview process.  Some graduates also meet with agencies that charge them an ammount to render untrackable service. Some companies even outrightly even ask them to get a scratch card and pay to apply for their jobs – Army, Police and others. It’s really a frustrating experience for the graduate. If only you had someone who could help.

Professionals
Job change is a good thing for career growth at times, at other times we just get genuinely bored, and wish we could just move to another company. It involves a lot of dodging, sending emails from non official email addresses, e.t.c. It gets stressfull too, you don’t enjoy the job you are doing, you want out, but you have to wait, you can’t just go back home and do nothing! If only someone else can take this load off your stress.

We offer coaching ahead of interviews for high performing applicants, ultimately creating a path to recruitment. We have no guarantees on jobs, but we help to the best of our ability. We also have an office and a human face and are open to our subscribers.

In our bid to partner for success, we indentified that the reall need is to be helped with the job search process, and with some training and empowerement needs. Young professionals also need some of the things that fresh graduates need, and the opportunity for income by the side is not so bad either.
