The Prayers That Influenced Me
It’s been quite a while that I have written, it hasn’t been out of having nothing to write, it’s has been out of being extremely busy. I hate this type of business, working on so many things at the same time, some of them great things and not having sufficient time to communicate or update the world about them. New Nigeria Club has been matching on beautifully, we have in our tracks covered a lot of things we planned to do, and are doing more by the day. We have been able to spread our tentacles into a lot more opportunities for members, we were able to get investment opportunities for members and our weekly meetings have tipped and we have changed the venue from an unfilled 250 sitter hall into packing full one that can accommodate 1500 people at a sitting every Sunday and a lot more. We are currently concluding the acquisition of the New Nigeria City, and working on putting the New Nigeria City Ltd together as a management company that will be co-owned by New Nigeria Club members. God has been good, and things have been great.
Just last Sunday, I caught myself praying a prayer that currently comes to me naturally. It’s not the Lords prayer, but it’s a prayer that I have uttered with as much regularity. In fact the prayer is so much a part of me, that without thinking when I want to pray I utter the phrases to God and it causes me to think. My life is on an upward climb, and trust me, all the glory belongs to God. I have come this far, and will go further, not by my genius or by my strength, but by God’s grace and his answers to prayers. I remember I wrote a similar article some time ago, titled the songs that influenced me. I think you can learn a few things from these words of prayer, and offer them to God for yourself as well.
It’s really a simple prayer, I read excerpts of it in a book over 12yrs ago, and it’s stayed with me since then. It goes like this.
“Lord I offer myself to you wholly and completely without reservations, please do with me Lord as you please. I offer you my life, my soul, my passion, my purpose, my ambition, all that I am and all that I ever will be, I hold back nothing from you Lord, use my life for your glory and for your pleasure. Have your way with me!”
Whenever I say these words to God in prayer, it brings me back to the consciousness of the fact that I am God’s bond servant. My life is surrendered willingly to do all that God considers His will. I do not have a life of my own, I belong to God! It reminds me that I will ever function at my best, only when I am aligned with God’s will and God’s way. It reminds me that when I’m not giving God pleasure I’m not living right, it reminds me that God can make a demand for my life, my time and my resources at any time as I have surrendered my ability to choose in that area. It means that I cannot partition my life into segments, and say like some that I have a social life, an academic life, a business life and then a spiritual life. My life has been offered completely without reservations, without anything left for me. I am sold out… 100%. All the aspects of my life must be aligned. It also reminds me however, that when I do great things and people marvel, it is not I, but the one that owns my life and drives it the way that He wills. I am not ordinary, I am not alone, I am not my own master, I am not all that you see. My life is the testimony of how useful we become, when we allow God to make use of us.
It may not appear clearly to the order of the Pharisees and Sadducees - these are they who have all their lives expected a new day, but in a different way. There are many in this generation, who long for better tomorrows for their children, who believe that great things will happen in Nigeria, in Africa and they will be eyewitnesses to the birthing of a new day, but many of them refuse to plug-in into the plan of God because the messiah comes in a manger, and is not adorned with military prowess. Because the longed for salvation on Sunday, but it decided to show up during the week. They looked to see the cloak, but all they saw was a pen. The waited for an ordination, but all they hear is a voice.
A new day is here my friend, and the people that are qualified to be a part of it are those who are completely sold out, and are willing to perish their egos and caprices for the masters will. Pray it together with me daily ….

Hello. I am

“It means that I cannot partition my life into segments, and say like some that I have a social life, an academic life, a business life and then a spiritual life.”
Thank you for this timely word.
Regards to your great man child and happy 6 months celebrations!
This is the REAlity of knowing one’s purpose & reasons 4 existing in life Deolu. Being real and personal with God, oneself and humanity…
the best discovery that can ever happen to any man.
I woke up AGAIN to discover this truth especially as i realised am a year older.
Impacting piece Deolu!
God bless!
@ wale…
i cant agree with you more.the basic is to discover one’s purpose in life & reason for living.
@ all
sometimes its hard to lose sight of God’s gentle nudging by simply wanting to do everthing on our own..”not by power nor by might…..”
thanks deolu for this inspiring piece.
Wow…It’s good to read from you once again after a long while. I know you were busy but thank God you wrote this after that…I was planning for a retreat while i read ur post. I’ll definitely use the prayer that changed ur life n i know it will change mine for the better too…
Welcome on board to a fulfilled April by God’s grace.
Love you still
Pastor Sam once said, Behind every principle there is a principal. This piece is clearly expatiating the God-factor key in attaining success.
Chairman, this is a good piece! Infact, you are Pastor Deolu Akinyemi!
Good to hear (sorry read) from you again Deolu.
I guess acknowledging one’s ‘bondservanthood’ with God sets one free rather than binds one.
One of my own favourite prayers has been “HELP ME LORD”, when i realise often that I’m limited in energy and other resources that I need to accomplish …
And as the last ‘commentator’ said, Bish…, oops Pastor Deolu!
Timely word there Deolu.
I must agree with you on these piece. I have also noticed that since i made up my mind to yield to the Holy Spirit and ask for guidance into all truth, Things have been very different.
The much I am today has been God’s influence on my life. Interestingly, those prayers just come to pass even if you say them unconsciously.
Great word(k)!
The key words in that prayer come to me so real; it shares the same words with what i call “my surrender prayer to God- each time i speak the words, i feel God’s love and fatherhood nature come alive within me, boundless joy wells up within me.
Can i encourage us all to speak words of prayer similar to these, it works wonders, give it a trial!
Sometimes its very easy to pray prayers like the one above where we tell ”God I Surrender All to You” but when the chips are down and He says make a choice for me as against choosing the comfort offered by the devil when opportunity comes to misappropriate money especially when the figures involved is in millions.
When He calls to you to sacrifice your meal for the needy, or when the opportunity is there.
The on going probe of the power sector by the house of reps has exposed a lot of rot even. Men will rather obey the devil to loot this country than obey God to be their brothers keeper.
Jesus said in Matt.15:18
This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips ; but their heart is far from me. KJV
Lets give over our hearts to Jesus, this message and deolu’s prayers above should be propagated in our nation only then can the testimony recorded by these friends above be truly that of Nigeria. A nation where God is on the driver’s seat in every heart.
Deolu,
Your blog has been able to meet me at my point of need a few times and this one happens to be another one.
The prayer says all that one needs to tell God at every moment of our lives….
When we need to make decisions, when we need to go out, when we want to eat, when we want to do just anything.
I have it on my phone (hope I am not violating copyright law…lol) now so I read it to myself everynow and then and meditate on it.
Thanks man! You are blessed.
hi,
Honestly, without Him we are nothing. God knows our frame and he declare the end from the begining.
God’s choice is different from a good choice.
Sometimes we blame God for the mistake we made without consulting Him first before taken the decision.
This is a prayer that one must be saying everyday.
There is nothing as being committed to Him fully.
Deolu, you are a blesing to this generation. May the good Lord keep you for us.
Deolu this prayer reminds of such dark moments when i think i’ve got all the answers but truly it is God who has all the answers because he is the almighty,i place all my trust in him.
This is an important prayer.
Yah God is the only ever sufficient saying yes to all our dreams. i love this prayer i will include as my daily prayer point, it seems when we are down to nothing God is always up to something. it has succeeded in making my day.
Cheers Deolu.
Hey man, i think its more than a prayer for a fixed time, its a
meditation for each and every day.
Yes we may not understand God all the time, but we can trust him all
the time, its all about him and a call to TOTAL SURRENDER.
Cheers.
Prayer, i must say has been a life changing venture if i’d put it like that.its very necessary in our lives especially as Nigerians in Nigeria, we need a lot of it to survive.
