Where are You?

Yesterday I had a short chat with someone dear, that I’m working with through a process, and while we were chatting I remember a study I did some years ago. It was a study that helped me define where I was in my life’s journey, and it proved useful to a lot of people I have shared it with since then. I have had the opportunity of sharing it with quite some crowd of people, and I was wondering why I had never shared it with my online friends here.

It’s a study that helps you see life as a journey and helps you analyze where you are in the scheme of things. I first spoke about this research 10yrs ago, back then I titled it the 6 P’s in Joseph’s Life. All these P’s showed different stages in the journey of every human being. Not knowing where you are, can cost you dearly. So before you read on, I’m asking you today, “Where are You?”

There are 6 P’s that form cardinal points in the life of Joseph in the bible. Joseph is a character that has mention, not only in the bible but in the Koran as well. These 6 P’s are - Padanaram, Pit, Potiphar’s House, Prison, Palace and Prime Minister position. These 6 P’s show the typical cardinal points in the journey of every life. While I hope I will be able to go into all the details about them all in this post, if I can’t, then I’ll ensure this will be a good intro.

Padanaram

Padanaram was where Joseph was born. The land in Padanaram was a plain ground, no valleys no mountains, just plain. This is typical with the early stages of all our lives. It’s the typical stage of life where all of us are equals. At this stage there is no star, no dullard. Everybody has equal chances. It’s a plain ground. The plain ground is also the place of dreams, it’s the place where you catch a glimpse of what your future will look like. Padanaram is where Joseph began to dream of when the world would bow to him, it was the place where he got a coat of many colours that made him the envy of his brothers. Padanaram is the place of schooling, it’s the place where Joseph the basics and rudiments of language, purpose, culture and history. Padanaram is the plain ground, it’s homely and it’s free of turmoil.  All revving to take the future on, looking forward to the next opportunity as the high place of his dreams, he comes into contact with the stack reality of what will be his next step in his life’s journey - the PIT.  Joseph spent 17yrs of his life in Padanaram, learning the theories in a land where all men are equal.

Pit

After all the glowing education, and the awards and recognition of a special robe of honour. After he passes through the plain stage of his life with flying colours, one will expect that the next stage would lead upwards, but not quite. Joseph is faced with a demotion from the plains and finds himself plunging into a Pit. The time spent in the pit was brief. The pit is a place of temporary demotion. It’s the place when reality hits that the few days ahead if any, might not lead immediately to the palace of our dreams. It’s a place where our fates seem not completely in our hands. Joseph was thrown into this pit, while his brothers negotiated with one another what to do with him. Should we kill him? Should we sell him? How much? Joseph was in the pit while his brothers negotiated his future. Have you ever been at home waiting for the result of the tests and interviews that you have done to come? Have you ever finished from secondary school and waited to see what the results will be? Have you ever had a time in your life when all you could do on your part was wait? That’s the Pit. It’s not a high place, your friends are not likely to look up to you in this state, there is not much you can do on your own part to move things faster than they seem to be going. It’s a time in your life where the prayer on your lips is “God please take control”. The long wait, like all periods of waiting comes to an abrupt end, and it plunges you immediately into another life style. You don’t go back into the lifestyle you have always known… but into a different one in it’s entirety. He get’s plunged into Potiphar’s House.

Potiphar’s House

… To be continued. Let’s hope that you are interested.

[quote] “…Not knowing where you are, can cost you dearly…” [unquote]. I think the most miserable man on earth is one who does not know where he is going and does not know where he is.
