The Cure of Poverty
“The poor you will always have with you” - Matt 26:11, Mark 14:7
Everytime I hear about poverty eradication, I just marvel, poverty will never be eradicated! It can be reduced, but total annihilation is a pie in the sky.
Poverty is so bothersome, I’ve had a bite of it, and it’s certainly not desirable. We all have a general idea of the symptoms of poverty, but I believe a general picture of poverty is not having ones needs met, not wants, needs. Poverty is like a disease, only it makes you susceptible to many diseases. Poverty is like AIDS, it weakens your ability to respond to many of the challenges that life throws. Poverty itself might not kill, but the result of being poor can be devastating.
In my search about 10yrs ago, I stumbled on the cure for poverty, and just recently I came to understand the cause of poverty. It is my sincere desire, that someone will read this short piece, and drag him/herself out of the dredges
The root cause of being poor, is an acronym thats derived from the word poor itself. POOR - Passing Over Opportunities Repeatedly. A man is poor not because of his background, not because of a deformity, not because of where he lives, grew up or his family. A man or woman is poor because he or she passes over opportunties repeatedly.
Opportunities come to us all, we all get chances, what howeve r determines whether our opportunity will cascade into a defining moment for us, is whether we utilize them or not. A poor man does not see opportunities when they come, or he sees them, but does not count them as such. Have you ever tried hard to convince a dear friend about a good idea that you believe would be useful to him, and he couldn’t just see it? Have you ever tried to talk to a colleague about an opportunity you stumbled on and rather than seeing the opportunity he/she immediately sees a problem? The ultimately poor man or woman, is the one that has gone through life passing over opportunities repeatedly. A few opportunities passed do not make a man poor, but when the habit is formed, he is stuck, and cannot even see a way out.
There were many young men in the same bus that the owner of ABC transport boarded, that inspired him to start a better one. While most people complained about the problem, he saw an opportunity to do things better. There were many whiz kids in the year that Bill Gates brokered a deal on Dos, it’s not about strength, wisdom, skill or speed. It’s the ability to spot the chance at the time it comes, it’s the ability to see and not pass over opportunities repeatedly.
If this is the cause of poverty, what then is it’s cure? I used to think that the cure to poverty was to share the money equally. But I discovered that a poor man is not poor because he doesn’t have money. Poverty is first in the mind. If we share all the money in the world, everybody will revert to where he deserves to be in a maximum of 3 months. Is it to supply the poor with daily stipends, I figured then they will forever be poor. Our government does a lot to erradicate or placate the effects of poverty, can poverty be erradicated or reduced? How?
I found the how in a profound statement made in the holy creed.
Is 61: 1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
The cure to brokenness is binding, the cure to captivity is freedom, the cure to imprisonment is release, and the cure to poverty is good news. Doesn’t that sound funny? That the solution to poverty is good information? If that sounds strange to you, go on a fact finding mission, and you will discover that it is information that differenciates the rich and the poor. A rich man buys a share at N3:00 because he knows that it will rise, a poor man buys it at N50 because that’s when he hears that the price has been rising. A poorer man doesn’t even get involved, and says when it becomes N100 - “And I knew when it was N3 oh, if only I had bought”.
The cure to poverty is good news. Not bad news, good news. It’s information, good information. To migrate from poverty to wealth. Feed on good information, know who you can be, see the opportunites around you, know that nothing is impossible to one that believes, know that whatever you want to do is achieveable. Know, that you are just one decision away from your next breakthrough. Know that you can be all you dream to be. Feed on good information, and watch yourself gradually transform.

Hello. I am

adeolu, thanks again! i am blessed. its amazing really to know that its good news that is the cure to poverty and not so much money like most of us think so u have got me thinking now, what can i do to leave the state im in. you really got me thinking man and i know ill think through. thanks.
Succinct; straight to the point; very precise. Thanks deolu for this piece. You know it’s very funny how simple decisions shape our lives: I drew a financial plan early last year, February ‘06 to be precise, and now, it’s so amazing how a decision to invest N5000 monthly has currently earned me over N350,000 (without ‘naija-in-vogue’ HYIPs). Principle of “compound interest” could be mind boggling. With God, I can only imagine this time next year.
EEEE!!!!
Who wants to get rich out there?
Reading this page is a step in that direction.
Thanks Deolu for the insightful piece.
Catcha at da top.
D,
Well said.
The main point is that information is key to any man’s progress. There are many things that happen around us that we are not aware of. Just a simple piece of relevant info changes us from being poor to being rich.
It is therefore important that we seek to be informed and improve our knowledge base.
@ Deolu,
Thanks for the piece. I caught another ‘light’ from the write-up.
Meanwhile, I’ve not heard from you or dotdolies@yahoo.com about the mail I sent.
Thanks.
@ deolu
Thanks for this piece, you are a great man. Your are filled with so much knowledge, the bible says out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. Anytime i read ur piece, it fills an empty space in me and i yearn for more knowledge, I heard ur a coach, how can i become your student?
@Tj
I want to learn how i can make that kind of money without all these ”naija in vogue HYIPs”
God bless Adeolu Akinyemi
God bless Nigeria
good work there Deolu. i’d like to add dat although Good info is the bedrock to moving away from poverty but without “Focus and Discipline” the person will move back to poverty state. i for one had lost focus sometime ago on my monthly investment due to some laxity on my part but i had good information to work with, but thank God for dat virtue called Discipline. it really has helped.
Thank you Deolu for this wonderful piece. As usual, it is always a great delight to read your comments. I have been waiting for 1 full week before this one finally came.
Let me say here that since I started following your site about 3 months ago, my life has improved significantly. I made ’serious’ use of some tips I got from you and my financial life changed very significantly. In fact, I was able to change my car within 2 months. When I heard you were coming to my Church in Ibadan for a conference 2 saturdays ago, I was so delighted that I invited so many of my friends to come and see the man who has changed my life by ‘proxy’. Someone I have never seen but would love to meet. I am glad I met you on that day, following you to U I for another seminar. My life has never been the same since then.
Well, I can liken information to the parable of the sower. Not many will take action. The reward awaits he who will take action.
It is the hard truth but ‘the poor will always remain with us’.
I am glad am on my way to the top. Thanks Deolu and keep up the good work.
Hi dEOLU,
Very insightful piece.God knows where you get the insights from.Invested some token in an HYIP and reaped bountifully. Also I have been trying to DIY myself on the Forex and its working. Thanks for the inspiration your mail has been giving.I am sure of breaking the cycle of poverty this year ( God willing).Keep your keyboard rolling!.
Colleagues laughing at me before are astounded…won sese bere ni.They will buy the info at a later date…with quids.
That’s a nice piece by Richard, I agree wholeheartedly with your words. Praying to God for wealth & abundant riches without taking any action towards it is just like a passive prayer. It require a little bit of effort on our part. Remember, What if Moses had reused to stretched his rod towards the sea. You nothing will have happen. But that little effort he performed by stretching his rod was enough to divide the sea into two. As a result our prayer for abundance in our life must be follow with action. At least the scripture says that faith without work is a dead faith. Thanks Chairman for the piece.

Good thinking, good product.
Information is power. Get hold of one life changing information and your life will never remain the same again. The great names of today got to where they are as a result of the information they got hold of.
All we need is to just look around us and we will see great opportunities that will change our lives.
See you all at the TOP!!!

Yes o. Thanks for this piece. Information is power. If you dont know, you dont know.
hmmn…mind blowing. it`s amazing how u made the idea about curing poverty so insightful yet so simple anyone should understand and be able to apply it. the bulk of the mindset problem around us is about people not taking corresponding action to such insights as this. i`m blessed reading this piece. Thanks and God bless you.
You just hit the nail on the head.No matter a man’s condition,he can ALWAYS breakfree of it
1.If he is informed and
2.Ready to use the information at his disposal.
(Every piece of information is a means to an end)
NOTHING HAPPENS BY CHANCE
Such a simple equation:
Way out of poverty = access to Good news + Use of Good news! It worked in biblical days…That’s what drives them on Wall Street!
How you dey?
nikesorich,
the nigerian stock market has been doing quite well in the past two years. i take time to study stocks with potentials via business programs on TV, newspapers, stockwatch magazine etc.; keep in touch with my stockbroker. actually, few months ago, i decided to xpand my portfolio to include some of the seemingly reasonable ‘HYIPs’ in the class of deolu’s GFS, and recently ‘risked’ SEFTEG. I figured using about 15%+ of my profit on SEFTEG wouldnt hurt too much. Basically, my success so far is based on discipline: i keep up with my monthly deposit and make sure i dont invest in just any stock, when i feel i’ve had good gain on any stock, i sell it and use proceeds to buy into another.
I just started investment in mutual funds just to further balance my porfolio. i make donations to world missions as a form of spiritual investment. I also hope to enter the world market soon. Finally i try to spend an average of an hour a day reading Psalms, talking to God and thinking. if too tired, i doze off for a few minutes then wake up and continue.
The major difference between the rich man and the poor man is their state of mind. The rich would always sleep opportunities while the poor would forever see problems.
Information is also key. Information makes all the difference. Like Deolu said some people have really made millions of Naira in the Stock Exchange just because of some information others did not have.
Seek Information its key to being Successful.

Thanks so much Deolu for this piece, it’s so refreshing and re-energising for me, keep it up brother, we are getting blessed and surely all these seeds of words shall bring forth fruits in multiple folds in millions of people’s lives,by the grace of God.
i have truly mixed feelings on this subject.. i do agree that a successful individual becomes that way because of never giving up on that success.. i also find that many as myself.. become trapped in poverty due to helping others to a fault.. is that a bad quality i dont know.. i guess it depends on if u live for the riches of the earth or search for eternal life.. when someone asks for help i help, that is truly what our lord would do, but because i have helped over the yrs i have lost a lot of earthly material.. and now struggle because of it.. but what i do know is if i were to pass this very moment all the wealth of this earth shall remain here for another but my soul and generosity of giving when was asked, i can rest in peace knowing i did help when one needed.. now what that person does with what i have given is between them and their God .. all i know is i did give and help when asked as our father also did.. so i guess if being poor and in poverty due to helping others then so be it.. all shall pass on this earth even my tears i will forever help those if i can no matter where it will bring me.. i do live in poverty but my needs are met, food , shelter and a bed to rest my head at night.. do i need more then that ? guess it depends on ones own individual desires of the earth and what it can feed your soul.. just another thought.. not all poverty individuals are unhappy with their life, not all live for the desires of this earth nor want them.. individual choice.. money, material will truly never make you happy it will only buy you temperary highs and when u come down u will have to find another and so on.. true happiness comes from with in and we all have a different level of desire for happiness.. i went from 100,000.00 a yr to living on 600.00 a month.. i know that money pay’s your living bills but will never truly make you happy.. the greatest gifts are FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE.. if one loves who they are it doesnt matter if they are poor or not.. its society that says one needs to do better for themselves not the individual that may be happy with whom they are and what little they may have..so on that note i leave u with food for thought .. wink.. u all have a wonderful day..
@ deolu
thank you and im sure you know what i mean when i say THANK YOU FOR HELPING… u are truly a man of all men with a caring giving soul.. be well pray often and love always .. xx
Debra, a real food for thought. One thing keeps bothering me though. God’s says it is our responsibility to care for the poor among us. How can we care for billions of poor people around us if we ourselves remain poor? And the renowned Mother Theresa - who was an ascetic but dedicated to helping the poor - could it be said that she was poor?
@TJ,
pls can you give me details abt the monthly investment u do with N5000, so i can join? contact me pls, emmyk4real@yahoo.co.uk
Lord knows i dont have all the answers to lifes lil problems.. but what i do know is whether poor in pocket book or in spirit, depends on how one measure the meaning of poor.. although i have lots most of my material wealth, i am still rich in heart and still can give a shirt, shoes or just some good ole spiritual advice to one that may need them.. Mother Theresa was rich in spirit and gave of herself not of money.. so how does one measure .. hummmmm i guess it truly depends on what is important to one .. whether it be social stats, high education, large bank account, or spiritual intelligence. makes ya wanna say hummmmmm huh lol… i have had the full round about with “quoat” material and money wealth and i have to say that money never did buy my happiness, and what i have learned being poor is i have to depend on our Lord more to keep me going, sometimes i feel that if one has all they need here on earth they lose touch with what is truly important in life and that is the spirit of our soul and where we truly come and are going when all shall pass, some get so lost on getting high ranks at the bank they forget who brought those riches to them,, money can do one of two things.. it can make u a very generous person or vain.. it truly depends on the personal individual their standards in life and the spirit in their chest.. dont get me wrong here right now money sure would help me out with bills but one thing i have learned over all this is no matter what i do have in the bank or the home i live in the cloths i may wear will never make my soul at ease.. i have come to depend on our father for my needs and brings me to tears when i think of all the times i have pushed that spirit aside for the riches of this earth, its easy to get sidetracked when u have the means to spend and get those temporary highs, until u realize that the only thing that will truly ease your soul is communication and a relationship with our Father.. whom will never leave your side when u put total faith in his power to work threw you..you realize or i have anyway, that being at ease with my soul is what is most important to me in life not how society measures my success.. i look at my daughter and see the young lady she has become the kind caring soul i have raised is how i measure my success. i am one of the most wealthiest women u will ever meet and it has nothing to do with this earth or what it can give me.. I know my Father and he knows me and with that knowledge i know all will be ok.. wink.. hagd all..xxx
i guess the point is as long as you’re happy with yourself and what you’ve accomplished “IN GOD”, then you’re a sucess… and you’re ‘rich’.
emmyk, check the 17th response.

Adding more Antidotes for a Total Cure
The cure for poverty is truly good information, Good news, positive and impacting/life-changing information, but for a complete overhauling and overwhelming cure of poverty, there is the need for a right mind and a positive attitude required on ones side in order to have a life changing experience when you get the good information. You need a ready mind that is geared towards the positive to feel the full effect of the good information, you need to be designed for success and not just success but great success, and you have to possess a positive heart in order to identify which is good information. Even if you are poor in the physical realm, you need to enrich the real you, the inner man for you to be able to tap into the blessings of God, you need to have the ability to discern and identify the right information so that your riches can me made manifest in the physical.
Remember the story of the widow in the Bible? She had A JAR OF OIL but she never knew that what she’s got is more than enough for her to get out of her poor state, but she had the right mind. Elijah came with the good information and when Elijah asked her,” what do you have?” she answered “I have nothing” but then she remembered and rephrased her answer “I have nothing but A JAR OF OIL”. There and then, Elijah asked her to get all the drums, barrels and pots she could gather from anywhere and anyhow she could get it and bring it to the her house. Once that was done, the pouring began and every vessel she was able to gather was filled to the brim with oil from the little jar she had.
She received this riches and blessing not because she was the smartest woman in that city, or the most intelligent, if she were that clever she wouldn’t be left with just a jar of oil, but because she had the right mind and believed, she was able to identify the good news when she heard it, and she tapped into it, acted upon it and her poverty was cured forever.
You and I can also be cured off our poverty forever only if we can begin now to have a positive heart and a right mind that is carved towards success. Put your ears to the ground for the Good news and create the mind and an enabling environment so that you will be able to discern and act fast and effectively when it comes.

hello pple, a friend sent this to me and i felt it suits this issue as well. happy reading
A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together
to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into
complaints about stress in work and life.
Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and
returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups -
porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some
expensive, some exquisite. He told the group to help themselves to the
coffee.
When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said:
“If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up,
leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to
want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems
and stress. Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the
coffee. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even
hides what we drink.
What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you
consciously went for the best cups….and then you began eyeing each
other’s cups.
Now consider this: Life is the coffee; the jobs, money and position in
society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life,
and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of
the Life we live. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail
to enjoy the coffee God has provided us.
God brews the coffee, not the cups…..Enjoy your coffee!”
The happiest people don’t have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the
rest to God.
You are the miracle, my friend, your life either shines a light - or casts a shadow
