Second Step to Abundance

Most certainly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit.- Jesus Christ (John 12: 24)

I have been ruminating over this thought now for some days, and the more I think of it, the more it strikes me. Your seed will remain a seed and no more until it is put to use. What is your seed? Your seed is anything you have on the inside of you that has the capacity to produce much more. Your seed is that idea you have, that potential you have, that small cash you have, that skill that you have, that opportunity, that is your seed. What particularly interests me is the fact that until it is put into the earth, until it is utilized within this realm, it remains alone, a seed and no more. So why is your seed lying around?

Fear! The number one deterent to laying down our seed is fear. I remember the story of an old farmer. A young executive was travelling near a village when he had a flat tire, he got help from some of the young boys nearby and rather than stay with them, he decided to stroll over to a farmer nearby. The farmer was old, and relaxing in his cane chair. He took a sit beside him and in an attempt to make a conversation, asked the man a question, ” How is the corn doing this year?” he asked. The old man muttered that he didn’t plant any corn this year, he was afraid the rain will wash away the seeds. The man asked how about the beans, the old man replied that he was afraid that there would be drought. How about casava the young man asked, hoping this time to get a good answer, again the old man had been afraid that the weather would not favour casava. “What did you plant?”, the young man asked almost shouting. “Nothing” replied the old man, “I was playing it safe”. Not taking any risk is worse than taking uncalculated risks. Until your seed hits the ground, it remains alone. Move confidently against your fear inspite of your fear. As you face it, it will fade, F.E.A.R is really False Evidence Appearing Real.
Procrastination! The thief of time. Another reason our seed never hits the ground is because tomorrow seems like the best day. We are not ready, something else needs to happen, I’ll do it later, e.t.c. I’m not sermonizing you, it’s the encouragement I have given myself lately. I finished my second book two years ago. Everybody that has read it have told me it’s a masterpiece. I’ve read it almost 10 times, and even I love to read it. It’s a career guide, a wonderful seed. For the past 2yrs it has abided alone, it has been one of those good seeds sitting in a glass frame. What are you procrastinating. Your idea, money, opportunity, skill and talent will not only abide alone, it might be taken from you. Don’t push to later what you must do today, develop a sense of urgency. Your future is Now!
Wisdom! Your seed will not grow anywhere, your earth may not be the ground, it may be people. There is an appropriate earth for your seed, wisdom is knowing what you don’t know, and being able to enquire.

The labor of fools wearies every one of them; for he doesn’t know how to go to the city. -Attributed to a wise king (Ecc 10:15)

Many people have these precious seeds, but don’t know how it works. They don’t know what the earth is for their particular seed, they don’t know how to sow, they don’t know when to sow, they simply do not know. What is most important about your seed it’s not its potentials it’s its commitment. When the seed hits the ground, it is commited. It exausts itself, but then the laws that govern nature take over. Search, learn, enquire.

it is always nice reading ur write ups deolu they are source of encouragement especially to many that feels that all hope is gone for starting all over again. Really, if you want to be what God has predestined you right from the foundation of the world you must allow your seed to hit the ground.

  3. suyi odejayi responds:

Don’t you think it’s a matter of perspective and mindset? Do you think the MD of Zenith Bank will be praying to God for a suit or a car? By default, he has these things because of who he is.

And that’s why I feel we only discover destiny. Do we choose ourselves a destiny? If we discover it, that then means we shouldn’t struggle through life. You don’t try to be rich because it means you’re rich. The moment you’re born, your destiny is set. So why not ask your maker what is it you’re to do rather than struggling through life?

Or do you try to be yourself? You’re already yourself! All you need do is what you’re assigned to do. It’s like a Jay-Jay Okocha praying to God for boot or jersey? By discovery, the guy can get so many as he wants. He has discovered his part and all the necessary things will come to him.

I think the issue is when we don’t know or we are trying to become who we are not. Will you take your car to a mechanic that doesn’t have tools?

Maybe a twist in the above, but I thought to share it!

  5. Angela responds:

….Just as Christ said put the seed in the ground, not on the ground bury it in darkness (that time no one see you or knows you, the time of preparation, study and refinement)
I so agree…Know the right earth is the next step from finding your precious seed. We all have seed. Hook up to the manufacturer of you( God) and He will direct you to you particular seed and then plant it in the particular earth that will nurture, encourage and support it to grow well( positives environment)
I once heard ( rightly or wrongly) that the mighty Iroko tree takes 7yrs to first grow downward before ever surfacing upwards. Just think about it the Iroko tree is one of the strongest trees and that is just because it has a solid foundation, solid root system. It’s all well and good hearing all this, it is rema to Deolu cos he has dug deep , stepped out and is still digging deep and grafting.
Get all the information the processes but for it to be revelation to you and not just food that has been chewed and then fed to you ….you still have to do the work dig deep, step out and have faith in what the manufacturer of you has said in His manual about how best you operate and can be productive.

    Stay blessed all.

  6. Kamal responds:

Looks well like a church sermon, but much more. John Mason and Zig Ziglar don’t say more than this in all their books; this underscores the importance of this piece. 5 star!

  7. Tope Akinyemi responds:

    Sure thing,

All we will ever need to live a full and abundant life was placed within us at creation, we only need to discover them, or ‘it’ and get to work. No excuse is big enough for one to settle for less. God’s heart bleeds when we don’t maximize the huge deposits in us.

May we fully represent God by the quality of life we live.

  8. ayo ogunleye responds:

deolu the man. this is a master piece.
this is what i can deduce from that text john 12:24 and the article.

”until your ideas are engaged, your future is hopeless.but when you engage your potentials, the future is lively”

” every lively future is preceeded by discovery and committment of purpose”.

deolu i love your work.i’m preaching this.

  9. uju responds:

This is so timely….no matter how beautiful a seed is if it is not sown it wont bear fruit

  10. Adeolu Akinyemi responds:

    Wow…
@Angela - You are so spot on! I deliberately put second step because before you sow the seed, you need to find the seed. And I so love the Iroko tree analogy. Another analogy that stirrs me is that of the mustard seed. That seed is the smallest of seeds, but when it grows it grows to be one of the biggest trees and provides habitation for birds and beasts. It’s not in the size of the seed.

@Bolaji - I’m trying to find you oh. But I completely agree that when one finds ones soil it lessens the toil. The second step is finding the soil, the first is discovery - I think I get you, abi?

@Tope - Yes, everytime we ask God for bread, he wonders what we did with our seeds.

@Ayo and Uju - Great conjectures. fantastic.

@all - Thanks for the encouragement.

I believe everyone of us have something in us, tht the world is willing to pay for. We need to find it, and engage it.

  11. Bolaji responds:

    Yeah, you got it.

Finding the soil and knowing the potential of one’s seed. As you have said, what do you think will happen if you plant a mustard seed or iroko seed into a flower pot in your balcony?

  12. olaito responds:

People need to know that until action is mixed with dreams, wishess and desires nothing moves.

  13. Adeolu Akinyemi responds:

@Bolaji, the flower pot is not the soil for an iroko tree oh, it’s like putting a shark into an aquarium, it will never grow to its full potential. Like putting me in payed employment :)…some animals can only reproduce in the wild :)

  14. Bolaji responds:

Yeah, we are saying the same thing. So be yourself and live. Don’t undermine your potentials and be successful at the discovery of who you are and where you are supposed to be.

Then do it as NIKE says!

  15. Freelance responds:

Only God can reward you for what you are doing. It is also very important to find the right earth for your seed. It’s very necessary to nurture, water and take good care of our seeds. We all have seeds and its very necessary we maximize and utilise our seeds to get the best from it.

    It’s wonderful!!

    Godspeed!!!
